Abuja village where twins are killed by hanging “because they are evil”
The killing of twins in Nigeria was abolished decades ago, but a surprising discovery has been made, of a village where twins are killed by hanging.
This practice was exposed by Nkwasi Obim Nebo, a maternal health advocate and humanitarian worker who led a team of PeachAid Medical Initiative medical doctors to the village of Kaida in Gwagwalada on the outskirts of Abuja.
Nkwasi and her team arrived in Kaida one day before a set of twins were to be killed. When they got into Kaida the mother of a set of twins walked up to Nkwasi seeking help.
Narrating the experience on Facebook, Nkwasi wrote:
As soon as we arrived the community, this woman immediately handed us her newly-born twin babies, asking us to take them away; they were only 2days old.
I asked her why she was giving up on her kids, she replied and said they will be killed in few days from today if still with her. She heard we were coming and came out just to give us the babies!
This is her 4th pregnancy, and her 4th set of twins also! Oh yes! You heard me right! Twins are considered as evil in this community since time immemorial, and are killed (hanged) on the third day after delivery.
In an earlier post, the Peach Aid CEO had narrated how the Initiative, comprising medical doctors from Garki Hospital, Abuja, and other medical personnel, distributed contraceptives to the villagers.
She wrote:
During our health intervention at Kaida Village, Gwagwalada, FCT, we made sure every woman got their choice of contraceptives which will last for 5years, and that the men present also got condoms as many as they wanted.
We distributed clean delivery kits to prevent infection and bleeding at child birth; we checked their sugar level, and their blood pressure; we administered Vitamin A supplements for all the children between the age of six months to five years.

Nigeria’s oil output drops by 150, 000 bpd under Shell’s force majeure
NIGERIA’s daily oil output has dropped by 150,000 barrels per day (bpd) as a result of the shutdown of Nembe Creek Trunk Line.
In its 2018 budget, the Federal Government had earlier projected to produce 2.3 million bpd at the reference price of $51 per barrel. But with this development the target would not likely be met.
Already, Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Limited has declared a force majeure to protect itself against any liability with international oil traders and other stakeholders over the supply gap.
But the development has not yet impacted on the market as Vanguard’s survey of the oil markets around the world showed that the price of Nigeria’s Bonny Light was still a little below $80 per barrel in the market yesterday.
The price of organisation of Petroleum Exporting countries, OPEC basket of 14 crudes stood at $76.75 a barrel, compared with $75.18 the previous day, according to OPEC Secretariat calculations.
Investigation showed that despite increased government romance with stakeholders in the Niger Delta, the region has continued to record pockets of pipeline vandalism, meaning that oil operations may still under threats of disruptions.
In its latest report released about two weeks ago, Shell stated that: “Security remains a high priority due to continued crude oil theft and criminality in parts of the Niger Delta. Illegal refining and third-party interference are the main sources of pollution in the Niger Delta today.
“Third party interference caused close to 90% of the number of spills of more than 100 kilograms from The Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Limited operated Joint Venture (SPDC JV) pipelines in 2017.
‘’Security in parts of the Niger Delta remains a major concern with persisting incidents of criminality, kidnapping and vandalism as well as onshore and offshore piracy. Although there has been no damage to key oil and gas infrastructure caused by militant activity since November 2016, the security situation remains volatile in this region of the country.”
”Don’t blame Patience Jonathan for this administration’s monumental failure” Reno Omokri tells Garba Shehu
Former media aide to former president Goodluck Jonathan, Reno Omokri, has reacted to the article Senior Special Assistant to President Buhari, Garba Shehu, released last night in which he warned Nigerians against voting President Buhari out of office in 2019.
Garba in his article, said the greatest benefactors of PDP’s return to power will be the looters of the treasury when the party was in power for 16 years. Garba said the greatest beneficiary will be former first lady, Patience Jonathan. According to Garba, once PDP returns to power, all the assets seized form the former first lady will be returned.
In a statement he released via his Facebook page, Reno said Garba Shehu should not link the former first lady to the monumental failure of the Buhari-led administration. Reno added that Garba should stop speaking trash even though his name, Garba, rhymes with Garbage. Read his statement below
Garba Shehu and the Presidency Should TRANSMISSION With Care on Dame Patience Jonathan
Again, I am forced to respond to the childishness of the Nigerian Presidency under Muhammadu Buhari when his spokesman, Malam Garba Shehu took aim at former First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan, making her collateral damage to explain away his boss’ colossal loss of popularity as the 2019 elections approach.
I would like to inform Garba Shehu that Dame Patience Jonathan is not responsible for the abysmal failure of the Buhari administration, neither is she a member of the Peoples Democratic Party.
Would President Buhari like it if former President Jonathan rehashes the corruption allegations made against First Lady Aisha Buhari, by Senator Isah Misau?
Would the Presidency consider it fair game to highlight the fact that Yusuf Buhari, who does not have a job and has not served in the National Youth Service Corp as mandated by law, was in possession of a multimillion BMW power bike even though his father told the nation that he had to borrow to pay for his APC Presidential nomination form? How did he get the funds for such an expensive possession?
In terms of corruption, Transparency International, the only global body recognized as an arbiter on corruption, has said that the Muhammadu Buhari administration is more corrupt than the Jonathan government.
Whereas under Jonathan, Nigeria made her best ever improvement on Transparency International’s Corruption Perception Index, moving 8 places forward from 144 to 136 in 2014, today Nigeria has made her worst ever retrogression under President Buhari, moving backwards 12 places from 136 to 148. This is a fact.
Mr. Shehu should stop speaking trash even though his name, Garba, rhymes with Garbage. Rather than blame Dame Patience Jonathan, for his boss’ loss of popularity, he should explain to Nigerians why the $25 billion contract scam at the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation has not been investigated till today.
Garba should also explain why subsidy payments, which his boss termed ‘a fraud’ have jumped to ?1.4 trillion per annum yet the price of petrol has doubled to ?145 from ?87? If petrol prices go up then subsidy should go down. If subsidy goes up, then petrol prices should go down. It is mathematically impossible for subsidy to go up at the same rate and time price goes up.
Mr. Shehu should also tell Nigerians who recalled, reinstated and double promoted Abdulrasheed Maina, the biggest alleged thief in Nigeria’s civil service history. Maina was dismissed by the Jonathan government and recalled under the Buhari administration. Nigerians may further recall that Maina was said to have been given armed guards by Junaid Mohammed. Nigerians May further recall that the Attorney General of the Federation went to court to halt a Senate probe meant to unravel the Maina mystery.
While he is at it, Garba Shehu should tell Nigerians when Babachir Lawal will be prosecuted because we hear that he is in charge of President Buhari’s re-election campaign in Adamawa state.
Nigerians are also interested in knowing who the $43 million found at Osborne Towers in Ikoyi Lagos belongs to as well as why the Executive Secretary of the National Health Insurance Scheme, who was indicted by the Minister of health for misappropriating ?10 billion, was reinstated.
These and other cases of unprecedented corruption, incompetence and cluelessness are why Nigerians want to Change the Change and not because of Dame Patience Jonathan.
Finally, Garba Shehu is advised to TRANSMISSION with caution. This is Nigeria, not WEST GERMANY. He should further remember that 97% plus 5% equals 102% not 100%.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle spotted for first time since wedding
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been pictured for the first time since their wedding.
The newlyweds were photographed in a Land Rover driven by Harry into Kensington Palace on Monday afternoon, just two days after their emotional royal wedding.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were both wearing sunglasses and were smiling as they arrived back to their new home, Nottingham Cottage, within the palace grounds.
The appearance came as the first official photos from their spectacular Windsor nuptials were released.
”15 Revenue-Generating Agencies fail to account for N8.1tillion under Jonathan” Lai Mohammed says
The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, has said 15 revenue generating agencies of the federal government failed to remit N8.1 trillion to the Federation Account between 2010 and 2015.
The Minister made the disclosure in Osogbo, Osun State, on Monday while commissioning the Channelization, De-silting, Flood Control and Development of Okoko and Ogbagba Rivers, phases one and two, on behalf
of President Muhammadu Buhari.
He said the discovery by the auditing firm KPMG is many times worse than the N1.34 trillion carted away by 55 public officials between 2006 and 2013.
“Recently, the Federal Government ordered an audit (between 2010 and 2015) of 15 government revenue generating
agencies. The result was the discovery that the agencies had not remitted over 8.1 trillion Naira to the Federation Account. This
amount is about six times the 1.34 trillion Naira that was stolen between 2006 and 2015.
”It is also the equivalent, on the average, of the country’s yearly national budget! Imagine, for a moment, how many kilometres of roads could have been constructed, how many kilometres of rail tracks that could have been laid, and how many modern hospitals and schools that could have been built if that money had been properly accounted for,”
Alhaji Mohammed said.
He told the mammoth crowd at the commissioning that the Buhari Administration’s fight against corruption remains very critical because it will free the much-needed resources for national development.
The Minister said the projects being executed by the present administration, including the one that was commissioned in Osogbo – one of 53 being commissioned across the country – could have long been completed but for the mind-boggling looting of the treasury by previous administrations, which deprived the nation of infrastructural growth
He said that every kobo that is not looted is a plus for development, adding: ”This is why we will not stop talking about those who have looted the public treasury, despite the pushback from their apologists. If we do not stop the looting of the treasury, there will be no money for the kind of projects we are commissioning here in Osogbo today.”
Governor Rauf Aregbesola of the State of Osun corroborated the Minister’s disclosure that 8.1 trillion Naira was unaccounted for by 15 revenue generating agencies, saying the share of his state from the said amount is 75 billion Naira which, he said, would have been more than enough to pay all civil servants their salaries and complete all infrastructural projects of the government.
Speaking on the commissioned project, the Minister said this is the first time the Ecological Fund Office is ever commissioning any project and handing it over to the host community.
He said the triple project, which was one of the twelve 4th Quarter, 2016 ecological intervention projects across the six geo-political zones approved by the President in October 2016, was due to the perennial flooding which had claimed lives and destroyed property in Osogbo Township.
”I have no doubt in my mind that the successful completion of these projects would enhance the holistic solutions to soil erosion and flood menace in Osogbo Town. This would at the same time reduce the
danger to lives and property associated with erosion and persistent flooding that has been experienced here in the recent time,” Alhaji Mohammed said
Here’s everything that went down at Harry and Meghan’s wedding reception
After Prince Harry and Meghan Markle had their wedding ceremony at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor, they moved to Frogmore house for an evening reception consisting of 200 guests and it turned into an outrageous party with a royal dance-off and “beer pong” games.
As guests arrived at the evening party, they were asked to hand in their phones to prevent any unauthorised videos or pictures. Chat show superstar James Corden compered the event and he did his best to entertain.
Corden even instigated an extraordinary dance routine which featured Prince Charles, Prince William and Harry.
A source revealed: “He even compered a dance-off between Harry, Charles and William. Everyone was laughing because it’s something no one expected. Meghan and her mom also joined in. Then everyone danced, which really kicked off the party.”
Meghan and Harry chose Whitney Houston’s “I Wanna Dance With Somebody” as their first dance at the fun-filled wedding bash. Harry, 33, and Meghan, 36 let their hair down to the hit by Whitney Houston at Frogmore House, Windsor.
Meghan’s US heritage was marked with the boozy American university drinking game beer pong, where players throw table tennis balls into cups of beers which their opponents then have to consume.
The reception insider said: “Serena Williams played beer pong like it was tennis. Everyone had so much fun with it, there were even fireworks.”
Charles and wife Camilla are thought to have left the party at Windsor’s Frogmore House before the celebrations became really wild.
The source told Page Six: “Prince Charles and Camilla headed off at about 10:30 p.m., leaving the younger ones to party. It started to close down at about midnight to 1 a.m., then people headed off to London, although some stayed.”
Hollywood superstar George Clooney, 57, whisked Meghan away for a dance and also did same with Kate Middleton.
Pork belly and Pol Roger champagne was served. There was festival-themed food, with burger nibbles and bespoke cocktails.
The source added: “There was a glass marquee for the dinner, festival-themed stalls and bars outside, with different themed drinks. There were burger bar stalls, whiskey bars, candy floss, games to play, acts performing and a DJ with a dance floor. There was a gin vermouth cocktail created for Charles and Camilla, who are both massive gin fans apparently.”
The Sun revealed guests were also offered a cocktail called When Harry Met Meghan — a rum-based drink with a hint of ginger ale.
Guests were told to “dress to the nines” for a night of “old-fashioned glamour and gallons of champagne.”
Celebrity DJ Sam Totolee was on the decks. Actor Idris Elba also took a turn at DJ’ing, with a playlist filled with soul classics, 1960s R&B and 1980s dance hits.
In a striking break with royal tradition, Meghan gave a speech in which she thanked Prince Charles for walking her down the aisle and for such a “warm welcome” into the Royal Family.
Harry also gave a “rip-roaring” speech and said he looked forward to “spending the rest of my life” with Meghan.
But it was brother William, 35, who brought the house down during a joint speech with Harry’s best pal Charlie van Straubenzee. They teased the groom about his thinning hair and told Meghan she was “the best thing that had ever happened to Haz”.
One guest said:
William managed to strike just the right balance between hilarious and solemn. He did mention their late mother, Princess Diana, and said how proud she would have been of her younger son.
He said he was proud of Harry too and welcomed Meghan as the sister he never had and the best thing that had ever happened to Haz.
But when he and Charlie got going, it was hilarious. They teased Harry about his growing bald patch and Wills said it would become as bad as his. It was some bash.
The guests had so much fun and danced a lot at the reception. Serena Williams was ready for a night of fun and arrived the reception wearing trainers beneath her long floral dress.
But for those guests who didn’t bring flats, Meghan Markle provided slippers for her reception guests so they could dance all they want. “Pretty Little Liars” star Troian Bellisario, who is married to Markle’s “Suits” co-star Patrick J. Adams, shared a shot of the fluffy footwear on Instagram.
Celebs nursed epic hangovers on Sunday after the wedding reception.
Meghan’s on-screen lover, Patrick J. Adams, gushed about the reception and Meghan, saying: “She stole the show.”
Adams, 36, who plays Michael Ross in “Suits,” paid tribute to the new Duchess as he checked out of the luxurious Coworth Park hotel, where Wills and Harry had spent the night before the wedding.
He said: “She looked beautiful and the day was amazing. We’re all so proud of Meg, she looked beautiful and stole the show.”
Other celeb pals of the royal couple staggered out throughout the morning.
Corden left looking worse for wear, shouting at staff: “Let’s do it again at Christmas.”
“Suits” actor Rick Hoffman, 47, was spotted singing a boozy rendition of Michael Jackson’s “Billie Jean” in a private section of the hotel.
Jacinda Barrett, the wife of Gabriel Macht, 46, another of Meghan’s co-stars, said: “Congratulations Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, what a beautiful and joyous day today was with your lovely family and friends.
“I danced when Elton John sang, laughed at Prince Charles’ fantastic speech and am honoured to witness your commitment and love for each other, wishing you a long and happy life together.”

I misplaced my piority when I was 21? I was 17 when I lost my dad was preparing to write my SSCE then, am the 1st born will be 28 by next month. My mum was into petty trading and there was no way she could help continue with my education. After my SSCE I tried to further more but all effort to no avail. I gained admission into 3 different institutions different year but could not go due to funds. That how I began a wayward life just to help my little brother and my mum survive?? I did this for some years bfor my mum prayers called me back home.
In 2011 I met a guy, he claimed he was a single father. He asked me out and I answered him that how he started carrying my responsibilities, I enrol into another institution in lagos where I had my OND, nd 1yr left for HND dis guy paid my fee and all. Little did I knw he was a married man. The month I find out he was married I couldn’t let go cuz the fear of who will continue paying my sch fee, who will give us feeding at home, who will do this who will do that. So I continue and took fate of being the second wife cuz he said he wanted to marry me. I felt thank God poverty has finished in my life, but guess what I didn’t know I just started one tin called original poverty when I got pregnant 4 him he was gud at 1st but just after my pregnancy was 5 months he started showin me who he truly his. He left me all to myself, to the extend that I spent all the money I ever saved from him on buying hospital things, scan, etc. I pass due date with a month and i almost died with the pregnancy but glory to God and my mum she was strong for me. Couldn’t pay bal of hospital bills cuz I was totally out of cash dat I even got arrested by the doctor, couldn’t feed when I left the hospital, in a day me and my mum will share AKAMU of #50 to drink, after a week of getting home no kerosene in the stove, we bath a 1 week Baby with cold water, feeding became worse for us back to square one. That how I became an online begger, I had no shame of begging for things online, from money to feed, to baby clothes, baby shoe, beg for whole lot online. I couldn’t afford to even buy pant for myself. I suffered to de extend that 1k is like 1M to me
I then start job hunt which I got one with a microfinance bank the pay was 38,000 per month. The salary was not enough but I was struggling to survive since half bread they say is better than non. There was a time my son ran out of food, I borrowed a customer’s 9,000 to buy my son’s food, diaper and co pending the time I got paid. My people do u know I got arrested slept in cell and was also charged to court for 9,000. Have been physically drained by the court issue , it got to a stage I started acting as if I was already running mad. I thank God today that the case is on settlement at the court, that how I also lost the bank job too another hunting started. Got an invite for another interview when I had accident but am healing by the day. And I give God the glory for all he has done and I know good things re in Stock for me from God.
My dear sister married men re demons, they come as a helper but they are not, I face life time trauma and stil facing it and I know I will be out of it by the grace of God one day.

Groom dies in wedding day car crash
Two off-duty NYPD cops, one of whom was the groom on his wedding day, were killed Sunday night when their rented Maserati crashed, authorities said Monday.
Michael Colangelo, a 31-year-old officer with the NYPD who had just gotten married, and Detective John M. Martinez, 39, who was assigned to Brooklyn’s 84th Precinct, were killed in the crash in Ulster County, state police said. Both men, who lived on Long Island, were pronounced dead at the scene of the crash on Oliverea Road in the town of Shandaken.
A third person in the car, a 28-year-old man from Wantagh, LI, suffered non-life threatening injuries and was rushed to Albany Medical Center.
State police said Martinez, a married father of two from Hauppauge, was driving the 2018 Maserati on Oliverea Road when the high-end sports car “left the roadway and struck a large tree” before flipping over and coming to a rest on its roof about 11:23 p.m.
Colangelo, a resident of Huntington Station in Suffolk County, and his wife, Katherine, a registered nurse, had just had their wedding reception at the Full Moon Resort in the Catskills. The victims were less than a mile away from the reception at the time of the crash, an investigator with the state police said.
Colangelo and his wife were planning to honeymoon in Costa Rica before his shocking death.
