PRESIDENCY DENIES TINKERING WITH SUB-COMMITEE LISTS

the All Progressives Congress (APC) recently released

The Special Adviser to the President Media & Publicity, Femi Adesina, in a statement on Thursday said the president, Muhammadu Buhari, maintains a position of not interfering in party affairs.

The inauguration of 12 sub-committees comprising 240 members, by the Jigawa State governor, Abubakar Badaru, who heads the committee for the June 23 national convention, was followed by controversies as some protesters said their names which were initially published as members had been removed.

The members accused the Presidency of replacing about 50 names from the original list.

Some of the names removed from the list were also said to be those of members of the aggrieved New People Democratic Party (nPDP) which had earlier said it was sidelined from party activities.

APC headquarters’ staff members who said they were not carried along in the process also protested.

“Nothing in the allegation can be further from the truth in every material particular. For the umpteenth time, we wish to reiterate President Muhammadu Buhari’s position that he will not interfere in party affairs or matters before the law courts.

“It ought to have been obvious by now to discerning Nigerians that it is not in the nature of this President to go against the provisions of the country’s Constitution let alone his party’s constitutional provisions.

“It is, therefore, disingenuous to attribute every perceived infraction in activities of party or government appointees to the President’s desk,” the statement noted.

What Requirements Do You Need to Be a Cocktail Waitress?

Personality is a cocktail waitress's greatest asset.

Because alcoholic beverages carry a higher price tag than milkshakes and soft drinks, a cocktail waitress has the potential to make a good amount of money, most of it from tips. While you don’t need formal education to be a cocktail waitress, you should have certain traits and skills. Mostly, you just need to be a friendly face to offer a cold drink to your patrons.

Food Service Experience

The position of cocktail waitress is highly desirable among restaurant staff. Due to the level of competition, restaurant managers usually allow a waitress to move up to alcohol service only after she has gained experience serving food and non-alcoholic beverages. While the promotion is partly a reward for seniority, the position is such that an entry-level server will find its execution difficult. Time as a regular waitress allows a server to familiarize herself with the workings of a restaurant gradually as opposed to starting in the faster-paced job of cocktail waitress.

Personality

One of the most important aspects of being a cocktail waitress is having a friendly, outgoing personality. Whether a person is drinking to celebrate, to unwind or to sulk, a cocktail waitress should provide efficient, friendly service. If a customer wants conversation, she should be willing to accommodate him while remaining attentive to the other patrons. If he simply wants to be left alone, she should keep her distance, occasionally checking to see if he needs anything. Whichever situation she encounters, she should remain friendly and professional in her interaction with the customer.

Multitasking Ability

If a bar is doing well, a cocktail waitress will make more money, but she will also work much harder. She must be able to handle multiple customers and their drink orders simultaneously. If she is able to provide accurate and expedient service, she will do better with tips. If she makes mistakes and takes too long to serve drinks, her tips will suffer.

Ability to Handle Pressure

A downside of serving customers alcohol is that the product has an adverse effect on patrons. It is inevitable that at some point, a cocktail waitress will have to handle belligerent customers. She must do so cautiously and responsibly. It is part of her job to recognize the signs of intoxication and know when to stop serving a patron. This responsibility in itself adds extra pressure to the job

Everything you need to know about cocktails

I love cocktail do you

Are you feeling more shaken than stirred when it comes to cocktail making? Never fear, we’ve covered off all the basics to making brilliant beverages.

With Summer just around the corner, it’s important to have a few entertaining ideas up your sleeve for when your friends and family pop by. One of the greatest ways to delight your loved ones is with a mean beverage, especially when you’ve mixed it especially for them.

With that in mind, we sat down with Joe Worthington, general manager of Oxford Street’s latest hot-spot, Della Hyde, to give us some expert insight into the world of cocktail making, and answer some of our most pressing questions.

Cocktail terms and definitions

What does it mean when a cocktail says neat, sour, dirty, or on-the-rocks?

Neat: straight up, spirit poured the way the producer meant it – on its own.
Sour: heavily laden with some form of citrus, usually lemon.
Dirty: more often than not, when you ask for a martini dirty it involves olive brine!
On the rocks: cocktail poured over ice.

And what’s the difference between a shaken martini and a stirred one?

Unless you’re James Bond, all martinis should be stirred! Shaken means placing ice in the shaker and giving it a vigorous once over.

Stirring involves just that, stirring the alcohol around in the glass until it is chilled. It results in a smoother, clearer martini as the ice hasn’t been broken up in the drink like it would if it was shaken.

What to serve – and when

What’s the most commonly requested cocktail at Della Hyde?

Probably the negroni or the mojito, and for bartenders, the daiquiri.

What would you recommend for drinking before a meal?

Della Hyde’s Count Negroni – cold drip infused gin, orange bitter liqueur and Dolin Rouge (vermouth) stirred down. This is perfect before a meal as it clears the palate.

What would you serve during a meal?

Wine. I normally wouldn’t drink cocktails during a meal. But if you were that way inclined, go for something light and neutral – like a Tom Collins.
A tip, though; never have more than one cocktail with dinner as it can ruin the meal.

And what would you serve to finish the meal?

Our salted caramel espresso martini – it’s practically dessert in liquid form.

Entertaining for crowds

What’s a good cocktail to serve if you’re having friends over?

Margaritas! Great for girls and boys, we call that a uni-sexual cocktail. At Della Hyde, try Tommy’s Margarita – double shot tequila, agave and lime. Simple ‘n delicious.

What’s a good cocktail to prepare a large amount of (eg. a big jug or bowl for a party)?

The simpler the better: daiquiri or margarita. The classics are the best, that’s why they’re called classics.

A bartender’s secrets

What are some ideal pairings?

Rum ‘n lime! My current favourite at the minute is trying to put something sweet with something typically savoury, like mango and basil or pineapple and chilli!

What are your tips for getting a perfectly frothed egg white?

Using them guns! Give those eggys something to cry about when you shake. Dry shake (without ice) first followed by wet shake.

Tips for beginners

If you’re setting up a liquor cabinet, what would you recommend as the basics?

Pick your favourite from the spirit categories; vodka, gin, rum, tequila and whiskey. That way you please everyone. And don’t forget your liqueurs! I’d recommend Cointreau, Vermouth, Aperol and Tia Maria (for a sweet option).

What are the basic tools you would need?

A cocktail shaker and stirrer are a must, as is ice. It’s also worth investing in a measuring jigger. If you want to get really fancy, look into buying a Perlini; it’s a wonderful tool that carbonates your cocktail – spirits and all!

Federal judge rules that President Trump is in violation of the Constitution when he blocks users on Twitter

Federal judge rules?that President Trump is in violation of the Constitution when he blocks users on Twitter

On Wednesday, a federal judge in New York ruled that President Trump is in violation of the Constitution when he blocks users on Twitter.

In her ruling, Judge Naomi Reice Buchwald wrote that “no government official including the President is above the law, and all government officials are presumed to follow the law as has been declared. We hold that portions of the @realDonaldTrump account the ‘interactive space’ where Twitter users may directly engage with the content of the President’s tweets are properly analyzed under the “‘public forum’ doctrines set forth by the Supreme Court, that such space is a designated public forum, and that the blocking of the plaintiffs based on their political speech constitutes viewpoint discrimination that violates the First Amendment”.

The Knight Institute, which filed the suit on behalf of several individuals who have been blocked by Trump, applauded the decision saying “we’re pleased with the court’s decision, which reflects a careful application of core First Amendment principles to government censorship on a new communications platform. The President’s practice of blocking critics on Twitter is pernicious and unconstitutional, and we hope this ruling will bring it to an end.”

The Justice Department defended Trump’s Twitter activity, contending that muting is within the president’s “associational freedoms.” He may be president, the DOJ argued, but Trump still maintains a right to decide who he spends time with on the social media platform.

White House press secretary Sarah Sanders and former White House communications director Hope Hicks, both of whom were named in the suit, were dismissed as defendants. A Justice Department spokeswoman said “We respectfully disagree with the court’s decision and are considering our next steps.”

Kidnapper caught after she stole a baby at Mile 12 market

A kidnapper has been arrested as she attempted to escape after stealing a baby in Mile 12 market.

2-year-old Miss Ramudantu Matimu was with her mum at the Yam market in Mile 12, Ketu, Lagos, on May 22, 2018, when Elizabeth Ibezim took her while her mother wasn’t looking.

The mother of the child, who is a trader, was busy selling her wares and had no idea her child had been taken. By the time she noticed, she became frantic and a search party was immediately organized to help her find the child.

Fortunately, the child’s mother, who was in a near state of hysteria, sighted her child strapped to Elizabeth’s back. Elizabeth was trying to board a commercial vehicle at Under-the- bridge bus stop Ketu, a reasonable distance from where the child was taken, and the desperate mother rushed the suspect and struggled to collect her child from her. At this point, the mother raised alarm and people surrounded the suspect. But for the timely intervention of a police team stationed strategically near the market to provide security, the woman would have been lynched.

The suspect has been taken into custody and the case is currently under investigation at the Gender Section of the Lagos State Police Command.

77-year-old American woman conned out of $285,000 by online lover in Malaysia; two Nigerian men arrested

An elderly American woman recently went to Malaysia expecting to meet with a dashing construction tycoon she met online, only to discover that her internet romance was part of an elaborate scam.

The 77-year-old unnamed victim, who travelled all the way from the U.S, said she met a man on social media who would regularly send her sweet messages via email. Little did she know that she was being played by con artists who wanted to extort money from her.

According to AsiaOne, her online suitor, who had claimed to be an entrepreneur, allegedly told her that he could double her money if she invested in his businesses.

Through sweet talk, the swindlers were able to manipulate the elderly woman into wiring $225,000 to an account. She also sent them additional $60,000 on two instances via packages through a courier service when they set her up for a fake meet-up in Malaysia.

When she arrived in the country she was met by a man who told her he would bring her to her online lover.

She was then brought to a hotel in Puchong and left her there. Her luggage, identification and travel documents were also stolen from her.

When she told the U.S. embassy about her story, the officers there informed her that she might have been a victim of deceptive con artists who were only after her money.

According to Senior Asst. Comm. Mohd Sakri Arifin of the Federal Commercial Crime Investigation Department, his team was able to apprehend suspects after learning that the victim had sent a package containing money to an address in Setapak.

“We watched the premises and when two men came to collect the package on Monday, we arrested them. We seized $30,000, various identification documents, mobile phones, three ATM cards and a car,” he said.

Two Nigerian suspects, aged 26 and 33, were arrested by the authorities in connection with the crime. Report revealed to be on student visas, both suspects have reportedly been staying in Malaysia since 2015.

“We also managed to extract (online) conversations between the suspects and the victim. Based on the scripts, it was evident that they were experts at manipulating victims by sending them sweet and passionate love letters via email,” Mohd Sakri Arifin said.

The police are now looking for other members of the criminal group and the $255,000 which still remains to be missing.

“Between January and June this year, the amount of losses (through scams) was down to RM 50.5 million ($11.8 million) from RM 53.4 million ($12.5 million), compared to the same period last year,” SAC Mohd Sakri said.

“The number of cases, however, increased from 950 to 1,302 in the same period,” he said, noting that people should be more careful when dealing with strangers online, especially when money is involved.

“Never make such transactions when you have not even met your ‘sweetheart’ in person,” he added.

Michelle Obama shares romantic throwback photo of her and Barack kissing as she talks about how they tried to make the White House a home for their girls

The love between the former  US President and First Lady is hard to ignore.

Michelle Obama  shared another loved up photo of her and Barack Obama, and as with all other photos she shares, this one also came with a message. She spoke of how she and Barack always tried to make a home for their daughters no matter where they are.

She wrote: “Home has always been where our family is…It hasn’t mattered whether we’re lounging on a couch in Chicago’s Hyde Park or, as we are here, in the White House. We did our best to make the White House a comfortable place where our girls could climb trees and host slumber parties, where we’d have dinner together as a family, and where we tried to live by the values our parents instilled in us.”

The items were displayed by Williams Obiora, an operative of the Department of State Security Services, (DSS), the prosecuting agency. Led in evidence by the prosecuting counsel, Oladipo Okpeseyi, (SAN), Obiora told the court that local and foreign currencies were also recovered from the house and had been deposited at the Central Bank of Nigeria.

According to the witness, the DSS team arrived Dasuki’s house on July 16, 2015 with a search warrant but was prevented from entering by armed soldiers guarding the house. Obiora told the court that various categories of guns and live ammunition were found in the house and that 11 vehicles were also seized from the house and had been taken to the headquarters of the DSS.

He said that Dasuki’s witness, one Bello Fadile also countersigned while the leader of the team signed for the DSS.

Joseph Daudu, (SAN), counsel to Dasuki, prayed the court for an adjournment to enable him to prepare to cross-examine the witness. The prosecutor did not oppose and the judge, Justice Ahmed Mohammed, adjourned the matter until June 25 for cross-examination of the witness and continuation of trial.

Iraq to execute up to 40 ISIS brides despite the women pleading that they are victims

Iraq to execute up to 40 ISIS brides despite the women pleading that they are victims

Iraq judiciary is set to execute scores of ISIS brides as it exacts revenge for the three years of jihadi occupation that saw thousands killed at the hands of a brutal Islamic caliphate.

The women, who pleaded that they are victims of ISIS too, were given ten minutes to beg for their lives before judges decided to sentence them to death.

Many of the women are condemned by the Iraqi judiciary and locals for their support of their ISIS husbands, who wreaked havoc across the Levant from 2014 to 2017.

One bride, a French citizen named Djamila Boutoutao, 29, appeared in court last month and claimed:

I thought I had married a rapper. It was only when we arrived in Turkey for a week-long ‘holiday’ that I discovered my husband was a jihadist. I’m a victim. My husband beat me and locked me up in a cave with my children when I refused to follow him (to Iraq).

During a recent trial, where she begged to not be separated from her daughter, Djamila told reporters from the Guardian:

I’m going mad here. I’m facing a death sentence or life in prison. No one tells me anything, not the ambassador, not people in prison.

Don’t let them take my daughter away. I am willing to offer money if you can contact my parents. Please get me out of here.

The Guardian have reported that at least 40 women have been sentenced to death so far, while about 300 people linked to ISIS have already been killed. Now more than 1,000 people are languishing in Baghdad prisons after being identified as fighters or relatives.

Many of the women are widows and are the only carers for their children, born to ISIS fathers. Al Jazeera reported many of them claimed they were tricked into making the trip to Iraq.

‘It’s sad that this administration cannot point to any major projects initiated, started and completed’ – Ben Bruce

Common sense senator, Ben Bruce is once again calling out the President Buhari led administration saying, ‘It is sad that this administration cannot point to any major projects initiated, started and completed in the three years they have been in power except the Daura helipad. It is a weak leader who looks after himself. A strong leader will rather look after the people who he leads’.

He also said, ‘In the last 3 years, some of us leaders built new houses for ourselves, yet we haven’t built new housing estates for the people. We‘ve bought new private jets yet Nigeria still does not have a national airline. This, in my opinion, is the greatest failure of leadership possible’.

Alleged assassination: ”Governor Wike enjoys immunity otherwise..…” Lai Mohammed

Alleged assassination:

The Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed, has reacted to the allegation made by Rivers state governor, Nyesom Wike, that the Federal government is planning to assassinate him. Governor Wike at a thanksgiving service in Port Harcourt last Sunday May 20th said

“Intelligence report available to us as at this morning indicate that they are plotting to assassinate me in a crowd and claim it was accidental discharge. The level of conspiracy against Rivers State is unfortunate. Instead of focusing on governance, they focus on how to assassinate me or frame me up. I am not afraid because nobody can kill me. What is in me is greater than them”.

Reacting to the governor’s claim, Lai Mohammed while speaking with state house correspondents after the Federal Executive Council meeting yesterday May 23rd, said Governor Wike’s saving grace at the moment is the immunity he enjoys as a sitting governor because he would have been invited by security agents to explain the bases of such an allegation. Lai added that when he made such an allegation sometime ago, he was invited by security agents.

”As to the question about the allegation by the governor of Rivers State that he has information that he will be assassinated by the federal government in a crowd, I think one of the beauties of being a governor is that you enjoy immunity from prosecution and arrest. I remember a couple of years ago when I made similar allegations, I was invited to Force Headquarters” he said.
