Manchester City Demolishes Chelsea

Man City vs Chelsea saw the Citizens destroyed Blues armies 6-0 at Etihad
The win saw them go top on the Premier League standings with 65 points
Meanwhile, Chelsea dropped to sixth on the log with 50 points, level with Arsenal
Manchester City continued with their impressive run in the Premier League after embarrassing former Champions, Chelsea, 6-0 at Etihad Stadium on Sunday, February 10.
This was City’s third test in their push to reclaim the EPL title after an arguably gruelling week that saw them battle Arsenal last weekend and Everton in midweek.
Both encounters saw the Pep Guardiola-tutored side pick maximum points as they leapfrogged Liverpool into the first place on the standings
Knowing too well a win against the Blues would once again catapult his side into the top spot, Guardiola fielded a relatively strong side in the Sunday clash, with Sergio Aguero, Raheem Sterling and Bernado Silva starting upfront.
The lethal trio went on to play a pivotal part in City’s victory, with Aguero bagging a brace in the first half.
Sterling opened the scoring for the hosts within just four minutes of game play, with the Englishman capitalising on Bernado’s well-placed pass
Aguero nearly made it two four minutes later, but missed the sitter before finally scoring in the 13th minute with a deliciously curled shot into the top corner.
The Argentinian extended the lead six minutes later after Chelsea’s defensive lapse involving Rose Barkley and David Luiz.
Kepa’s goalkeeping blunder saw Gundogan score from the edge in the 25th minute as the first half finished 4-0 in favour of City.

In the second half, Aguero bagged a hat-trick from the penalty spot, after sending Kepa the wrong way to make it 5-0.

Sterling wrapped up City’s win from six yards off David Silva’s gorgeous pass in the 80th minute to put the game beyond the Blues.

The Etihad outfit now sit on the summit of the Premier League standings with 65 points as Chelsea dropped to sixth.

Manchester City beat Everton 2-0 to overthrow Liverpool at the summit of the Premier League table on Wednesday, February 6.

Aymeric Laporte and Gabriel Jesus scored a goal each to ensure the Citizens continued their title defence on a winning note.

Can City go on to win the League consecutively or will they let it Slip? I guess we just have to stick around to find out who will be crowned champions.

Corruption threatens Nigeria and its election – President Buhari says in new article

DD0F5D11-097C-47E2-909C-03A27A422402.png

Read a new article wrtten by President Buhari below

On February 16th, Nigeria will hold a general election. Four years ago, the country experienced its first democratic transfer of power to the opposition since 1999. The vote in a few days will be no less significant.

As president, I have tried to judiciously exercise the trust vested in me to combat the problems of corruption, insecurity and an inequitable economy. All are important. But amongst them, one stands above the others as both a cause and aggravator of the rest. It is, of course, corruption.

A policy programme that does not have fighting corruption at its core is destined to fail. The battle against graft must be the base on which we secure the country, build our economy, provide decent infrastructure and educate the next generation.

This is the challenge of our generation: the variable on which our success as a nation shall be determined. But the vested interests at play can make this fight difficult. By way of their looting, the corrupt have powerful resources at their disposal. And they will use them. For when you fight corruption, you can be sure it will fight back.

It even threatens to undermine February’s poll and – by extension – our democracy. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has raised concerns over laundered money being funnelled into vote buying. This is the problem of corruption writ large. It illustrates how it lurks in all and every crevice of public life, manipulating due process in pursuit of self-preservation and perpetuation; protecting personal political and economic interests at the expense of the common good.

Indeed, those who have criticised my administration’s anti-corruption drive are those who oppose its mission. And though their lawyers may craft expensive alibis, they cannot escape that which binds them together: a raft of documents and barely legal (some clearly illegal) mechanisms – whether that be the Panama Papers, US Congress reports, shell companies or offshore bank accounts.

Corruption corrodes the trust on which the idea of community is founded, because one rule for the few and another for everyone else is unacceptable to anyone working honestly.

But as we have intensified our war on corruption, so we have found that corruption innovates to resist the law. This is not the sole domain of those Nigerians, but the international corruption industry: the unsavoury fellow-traveler of globalisation.

Once the enablers are let in – as they have been in the past – the greed of those they collude with grows. We have closed the door on them, but unfortunately there still remain individuals who are willing to open windows.

Concrete progress has been made, but there is still much to do. We have repatriated hundreds of millions of dollars stowed away in foreign banks. These funds have been transparently deployed on infrastructural projects and used to directly empower the poorest in society. More is still to come from our international partners in France, the United Kingdom and the United States of America. Yet the hundreds of billions sifted out of the country for the best part of this century promise more.

We have secured high profile convictions, but greater cases remain. Lawyers table endless objections to obstruct court proceedings, whilst their clients hope it lasts until a ‘friendly’ president is voted into office. We must continue to tighten the legal framework and ensure the authorities have the investigative powers at their disposal to secure sentences. Only then will we begin to neutralise the advantages the corrupt have.

More ghost workers must be removed from government payroll (almost $550 million has been saved from identifying phantom employees). More can be recovered through our whistle-blower policy ($370 million has been returned since its launch in 2016). More is still to come. But, together, we shall prevail over corruption.

A Yoruba proverb states that only the patient one can milk a lion. Likewise, victory over corruption is difficult, but not impossible. We must not flounder in our resolve. I know many Nigerians would like to see faster action. So do I. But so too must we follow due process and exercise restraint, ensuring allegation never takes the place of evidence. For that is not the Nigeria we should wish to build.

There is no doubt that this Administration has changed the way we tackle corruption. The choice before voters is this: Do we continue forward on this testing path against corruption? Or do revert to the past, resigned to the falsehood that it is just the-way-things-are-done? Or that it is just too difficult – too pervasive – to fix? I know which one I would choose. It is why I am asking Nigerians for another four years to serve them.
MUHAMMADU BUHARI,
PRESIDENT,
FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA

US-based feminist, Laila Mickelwest, is of the opinion that ‘Prostitution is paid rape’.

She went on to say, ‘If prostitution were not a form of sex inequality than we would see males prostituted at the same rate as females & we would see females buying sex at the same rate as males. The numbers aren’t even remotely close. Women are sold to men that’s how the industry operates’.

‘Its six days to polls and many parties are yet to submit polling agents list’ – INEC issues last warning

2B182751-21F7-4576-BEDE-2B898CB699AC

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has directed all political parties participating in the forthcoming general elections to complete the processes for the submission of the names of their polling agents by Monday. February 11th.

The commission gave the directive in a statement issued by Mr Festus Okoye, INEC National Commissioner, and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, on Saturday in Abuja.

Okoye explained that INEC in its Timetable and Schedule of Activities for 2019 General Elections had fixed Feb. 1, as the last date for the submission of the name, two passport photographs of each polling agent and sample signature for the Presidential and National Assembly Elections scheduled for Feb. 16.

Okoye said that the commission at its meeting with all Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) in Abuja on Friday reviewed its state of readiness for the general elections, the national and state elections, scheduled for Feb. 16 and March 2. Okoye said that at the end of the meeting, the commission expressed concern that a week after the deadline for the submission of the list of poll agents for Presidential and National Assembly elections only few parties had completed the submission of the names of polling agents.

He added that in less than three weeks to the deadline for the submission of the list of candidates for the Governorship and State Assembly elections, only few political parties had complied with the extant provisions of the law.

“Most of the lists submitted are not accompanied by the photographs and specimen signatures of the poll/party agents as required by law.

“The Commission has decided as follows: All political parties that submitted incomplete applications without the specimen signatures and photographs of the poll/party agents are strongly requested to regularize this on or before close of work on Monday the Feb. 11.

“All political parties are reminded that Feb. 16, is the last day for the submission of the names, photographs and specimen signatures of poll/party agents for the Governorship, State Assembly and Area Council elections.

“Any list of poll/party agents that is not accompanied by specimen signatures and photographs of poll/party agents will be rejected.

“It is unlawful for political parties to deploy poll/party agents whose names have not been forwarded to the Commission and duly accredited in accordance with the law.

“The security agents have been so informed and no recognition, right or privilege will be accorded to anyone not accredited by the Commission,” he said.

He said that at the end of the meeting, the Commission decided to draw the attention of the registered political parties and members of the public to the provisions of the law regarding the submission of names of polling/party agents by political parties.

“Section 45 (1) of the Electoral Act 2010 (as amended) provides that:
Each political party may, by notice in writing addressed to the Electoral Officer of the Local Government Area or Area Council, appoint a polling agent for each polling unit and collation centre in the Local Government Area or Area Council for which it has a candidate and the notice, which sets out the name and address of the polling agent shall be accompanied by two passport photographs of each polling agent and sample signature of the polling agent and be given to the Electoral Officer at least 14 days before the date fixed for the election.

“Provided that no person presently serving as Chairman or member of a Local Government or Area Council, Commissioner of a State, Deputy Governor, or Governor of a State, Minister or any other person holding political office under any tier of Government and who has not resigned his appointment at least three months before the election shall serve as a polling agent of any political party, either at the polling unit or at any centre designated for collation of results of election,” he said.

#UFC234: Nigerian fighter, Isreal Adesanya defeats his mentor, Anderson Silva

FBD9855C-7F88-4449-AA8A-5398F248948E.jpeg

Last night, Nigeria’s Israel Adesanya remained unbeaten in the octagon after he beat middleweight legend, Anderson Silva, in the main event at UFC 234 in Melbourne, Australia.

Silva’s fight with Israel Adesanya was bumped up to the main event earlier in the day when the originally scheduled bout between middleweight champ Robert Whittaker and challenger Kelvin Gastelum was canceled when the champion suffered a hernia.

Put into the main-event spot, the duo dazzled in a bout filled with flashy strikes, head games, and near knockouts that barely missed. And while Silva had more than his fair share of moments, Adesanya is the one in his prime. And that showed as the bout wore on.

Adesanya was faster and simply landed the bigger shots as he went on to a unanimous decision victory at Melbourne’s Rod Laver Arena. The judges’ scores were 29-28 and a pair of 30-27s for the victor.

”No election will hold in Zamfara if APC is excluded” – Governor Yari tells INEC

D724FB9B-C098-487A-A2D0-E14648BBAC52.jpeg

The faceoff between the Zamfara state chapter of the APC and INEC appears to have taken a new turn as the state Governor, Abdul’Aziz Yari Abubakar, has threatened that there would be no elections in the State if the electoral body fails to field its candidates during the elections.

Recall that INEC have refused to allow the party present any candidate following the crisis that rocked the party primaries in October last year. No viable governorship candidate emerged from the governorship primaries that was characterised by viloence from the different factions within the party. INEC insists that Zamfara APC has no candidates because the party did not conduct primaries and submitted no list to the commission up till the 7th October deadline for submission.

Speaking at an APC campaign rally in Talata Mafara local government area on Friday, Governor Yari told the APC supporters.

“There is no way elections will be conducted in Zamfara State without APC candidates, despite Zamfara High Court judgment which confirmed that APC conducted primaries in the state”.

According to the governor, it will be a huge mistake and threat to national security for INEC to bar Zamfara APC candidates from contesting during the forthcoming general elections in the state.

“All our actions are based on Zamfara High Court Order, we are therefore advising INEC to obey the order and include the names of Zamfara APC candidates list submitted to the commission”he said.

INEC had maintained that Zamfara APC has no candidates because the party did not conduct primaries and submitted no list to the commission up till the 7th October deadline for submission.

The Zamfara APC had approached the state High Court to challenge INEC’s stand and the court, in its ruling, affirmed that the APC held primaries and asked INEC to accept the candidates.

I have nothing against Christians in Kaduna state – Governor El-Rufa’i says

Kaduna state governor, Nasir El-Rufa’i, has denied claims that he does not like Christians in the state.

Speaking during a Town Hall Meeting with a group of pastors under the auspices of ‘Pastors United For Change Association’ held in Kaduna yesterday February 9th, Governor El-Rufai reiterated that he has nothing against Christians in the state, adding that his choice of running mate, Dr.Hadiza Balarabe, who is a muslim and also from Sanga local government area of Southern Kaduna, was purely on her capacity to deliver and not based on religious sentiment.

Speaking at the meeting, the governor said

“In my life, I have never worked with people based on religious and ethnic consideration. Don’t look at what people said but what I have done in the past. Go through my records and see what I have done. On the issue of my running mate, we are encouraging women participation in politics. She is a competent woman.

“Late Prof. Andrew Nok, our late Commissioner for Education, brought Hadiza Balarabe when we were looking for someone that can revive our primary health in the state and she performed excellently well. I don’t know her before. Her choice as a running mate has nothing to do with religion‎. I am confident that my running mate will run the state effectively and will be fair to all in the state even if I am not around”.

Photos: FCT Minister, Musa Bello narrowly escapes death as APC and PDP supporters clash In Abuja

On Saturday, supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) engaged in a violent clash that left many injured and several vehicles burnt at the Building Materials Market in Deidei, a suburb of the Federal Capital Territory.

According to reports, trouble started when the convoy of the Minister of FCT Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mallam Mohammed Musa Bello, ran into a PDP campaign event at Dei Dei market, on the way to the palace of the Sarkin Jiwa in Jiwa District.

Supporters of the PDP were chanting Atiku/Obi and displaying posters of the duo and other candidates of the party. This was said to have angered APC supporters, as they insisted that the PDP members must pave way for the convoy of the minister.

However, moments afterwards, an argument ensued and the sitiation degenerated into fracas, as the PDP supporters descended on the vehicles in the convoy of the minister and that of passers-by. Several vehicles were burnt beyond recognition, and others were baldly damaged.  It took the timely intervention of the Police, who arrived the scene and fired several gunshots into the air to disperse the angry mob.

No casualty was recorded in both the convoy of the minister and PDP supporters .  The PDP had earlier accused the FCT authority of denying them use of the old parade ground for their campaign, which forced the party to cancel the event.

Photo: Man apprehended with female pants says a prophet sent him to steal them

D1742554-B6C8-446D-B5B9-1047754BFF36.jpeg

25-year-old panel beater, Adejoh Ojonugwa, pictured above, who was recently arrested for stealing the pants of his sister and sister in-law, has said that Prophet Olajide Ogunleye also known as Kokoro-Ayo, of the Celestial Church of Christ, Ibanujemidopin Parish, Uso in Owo Council area of the state, sent him to steal the pants as part of the rituals to make him rich.

While being paraded at the Ogun state police command, Adejoh said he recently approached Ogunleye for ways to get rich fast and that the clergyman asked him to get pants and ladies underwear.

“l was given a concoction by the prophet and, from that point, l could not remember what l was doing until l was arrested by police detectives. l regained my memory after four days when l remembered visiting the prophet for assistance to get rich. I had visited the prophet to pray for me because of my work and how to get rich.

After checking my palm, he told me there were ways out but asked me to swallow some concoction and prayed for me but asked me to look for ladies pants and underwear.  But when I got home I didn’t know what I was doing again and l started looking for pants and underwear. I found three of my sister’s pants and l went to my brother’s house where l took two of my sister-in-law’s pants.

Hours later, my sister-in-law raised the alarm that her underwear were missing and I was arrested and taken to the police station. Two of the pants belong to my sister-in-law and the three others belong to my younger sister. When the police arrested me, I was taken to Uso Police Station before they transferred me here (Akure)” Adejoh said

The sister-in-law of the suspect, Grace Ojonugwa, said her brother-in-law stole the underwear from where she spread it to dry in their house.

“It was my husband’s younger brother who stole the pants. He was actually trailing me to spread them. I met my brother-in-law inside our room. He had already packed two of my pants inside his travelling bag. l had spread the two pants on the line inside our room. Three other pants that did not belong to me were also seen inside the bag he was carrying” Grace said

Prophet Ogunleye denied hypnotising Adejoh nor asking him to bring ladies pants for money ritual.

“I am a true man of God and I have never seen Adejoh in my life. He is lying against me. The truth of the matter is that they came to me for a parcel of land and I refused to give them. I never asked him to bring any underwear for ritual. They feel it is an opportunity to implicate me in this crime since I had refused to give them the land to cultivate Indian hemp. I engage in spiritual cleansing for people, mostly pregnant women who have difficulties so they can give birth early and easily. I don’t engage in rituals as it is against the belief of our church. The allegation is pure lie against me. l don’t know the boy from Adams and l am surprised about the allegation against me. I am a prophet. l pray for people. l use morning dew and lime to heal diseases but l know nothing about money rituals”Ogunleye said

Commenting, the state police spokesperson, Femi Jacobs, warns parents to advise their female children about where to keep their underwear

”The main suspect claimed to have lost his senses after taking a concoction from the prophet and started looking for ladies underwear. He said he had gone to the spiritualist who is a member of the Celestial Church to pray for posterity. He now said that the man prayed for him and gave him an ointment to take and as soon as he swallowed the concoction, he lost his senses and began to pick ladies pants.

He had already picked some in Uso, their village, according to him. And he came to Akure again to pick those of his brother’s wife. We are baffled and shocked to discover that during the time he lost his senses, the next thing for him to do was to begin to pick women underwear. We think the story is too good to be true. That is why we are engaging him.  We will further dig into the matter to know what he actually wanted to do with the ladies pants. Once we know what he wanted to do, he will face the consequences.

We don’t want such a thing to happen in our state. And we are using this opportunity to enjoin our ladies and our women to keep very well whatever they put on, whether underwear or dresses.  We also plead with parents to ensure that their daughters keep their underwear very carefully. We are using this opportunity to enjoin our ladies and women that this is a very dangerous phenomenon. We have to keep well whatever we are putting on. I also advise parents to warn their children, particularly females, to be very careful about where they keep their underwear.” he said
