The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) says fresh facts available to it shows that the All Progressives Congress (APC) is responsible for the burning of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) offices in various parts of the country.
In a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbodiyan, the party claims to have the details of how the APC mobilized misguided elements in its fold to burn INEC offices and destroy electoral materials and equipment in Plateau, Abia and Anambra state.
Our party is also privy to clandestine plots by the APC to burn INEC offices in some other states, so as to paralyze the commission’s operations in such states, and pave the way for the isolation and postponement of Presidential elections in those states; after which it plans to unleash compromised security agencies to muzzle the shifted polls in favour of President Muhammadu Buhari.
Having realized that President Buhari has no chance in a credible, free and fair general election, the APC now plots a violent staggering of the polls so as to use security forces to re-enact the same rigging formula it used in the 2018 Ekiti and Osun governorship elections.
In attacking INEC offices and destroying the card readers, APC seeks to cripple the commission’s use of full benefit of technology that will guarantee a credible biometric voter accreditation.
The PDP in very unequivocal terms insists that it will never accept any attempt by the APC to postpone the Presidential election in any state of the federation. The Presidential election must hold in all the states on the 16th of February and President Buhari will be served his defeat certificate.
The PDP therefore charges Nigerians to resist the desperation of the APC, for which it has now resorted to burning INEC offices. The party also charges INEC to note that the APC is after it facilities and as such put stronger measures to protect itself from the assaults of this desperate party.
Famous Mexican drug lord, Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman has been found guilty on all counts against him and is expected to spend the rest of his life in a US jail
El Chapo who escaped from prison twice, made his first successful attempt in 2001 and broke out of a Mexican jail by hiding in a laundry bin.
Then, in 2014, he fled jail through a mile-long lighted tunnel which his associates had fitted with a motorcycle on rails. He was arrested again in 2016 and extradited to the US the following year.
On Tuesday, Guzman was convicted of running a criminal enterprise that amassed him a $14 billion (£11 billion) fortune. He ran the Sinaloa cartel, becoming the world’s most notorious drug baron since Pablo Escobar, the Colombian who was shot dead in 1993.
The 61-year-old showed no emotion as a jury in New York found him guilty of 10 drug-related charges. He will be sentenced on June 25, and will face a mandatory life term.
After the verdicts were read the Mexican drug lord, dressed in a charcoal suit and tie, leaned back in his chair and looked at his wife Emma Coronel, 29, a beauty queen. Both placed their hands on their hearts and gave each other a thumbs up. She had tears in her eyes.
The jury of five men and seven women, who have been under special protection since the trial began in November, deliberated for six days
During the trial, they heard allegations of gruesome murders, guns encrusted with diamonds or plated with gold, cocaine hidden in jalapeno cans, and a naked escape by Guzman with a mistress through a tunnel.
Prosecutors presented what they called an “avalanche” of evidence showing how Guzman, and his murderous Sinaloa cartel, made billions of dollars in profits by smuggling tons of cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine and cannabis into the US.
The court heard an allegation that Enrique Pena Nieto, the former Mexican president, took a $100 million bribe from Guzman. Mr Pena Nieto denied it.
Jurors were also told of Guzman’s personal brutality. On one occasion he was alleged to have kidnapped an associate who left his cartel, beating and shooting him, before having the victim buried alive.
A cast of 56 witnesses, many of them Mexican drug traffickers already in US prisons, gave evidence against him.
They included a Colombian known as Chupeta, or Lollipop, whose face had been so altered by plastic surgery while on the run that the court collectively gasped at his appearance.
One of Guzman’s many mistresses, Lucero Guadalupe Sanchez Lopez, told how she was in bed in a safe house with the drug lord when he was in hiding in 2014.
Mexican marines broke down the door but Guzman led her to a trap door beneath a bathtub, which led to an escape tunnel. “He was naked. He took off running,” she told the court.’.
Guzman will be held in a maximum-security prison in the US to avoid any jailbreaks.
A Republican lawmaker said during a TV interview that he would drown his own children if they came to him and told him they were gay.
Eric Porterfield, a West Virginia lawmaker and Baptist preacher, appeared on WVVA TV, an NBC affiliate, to discuss his recent inflammatory comments about the LGBTQ community.
During the interview, the GOP lawmaker was asked what he would do if his young children came to him one day and told him that they were gay.
Wearing a red MAGA cap, Porterfield replied with a creepy smile:
Well, I would dress my daughter first, as I would take her for a pedicure, I’d take her to get her nails done, and see if she could swim.
If it was my son, I would probably take him hunting, I would take him fishing, then I’d see if he could swim.
The reporter caught Porterfield’s apparent threat to drown his own children and she asked him to clarify his statement.
Porterfield continued smiling and replied:
I just want to make sure they could swim. That’s it. I’d take them out to do activities.
Following his alarming comment, Porterfield has been called out by a number of people.
Reporting on Porterfield’s disturbing remarks, LGBTQ Nation notes:
He was still smiling, as if threatening to kill his own children were cute.
Porterfield has previously made other homophobic remarks, such as arguing that people should have the freedom to fire or deny someone housing based on their sexual orientation. He also claimed that LGBT people are terrorists and likened the LGBTQ community to the Ku Klux Klan.
The West Virginia Democratic Party called for Porterfield’s resignation after his initial comment likening LGBT people to terrorists. In a statement, WVDP Chairwoman Belinda Biafore said:
West Virginia has no room for someone who expresses such hate. Let alone room for him to hold a public office where he is supposed to represent the people of West Virginia.
His hate-filled remarks and actions speak volumes and so does the Republican Party’s silence. The Republican majority’s leadership needs to condemn these actions. Their silence is complicit and the people of West Virginia deserve better.

A Jamaican man who won a lottery turned up in a mask to claim his £1million prize.
The man, whose name was given only as A. Cambell, wore a mask similar to the one from the movie Scream to claim his winnings. He said he did so so as not to be recognized by money-hungry relatives who would expect him to share the money with them.
Mr Campbell won the lottery in November last year but waited 54 days to collect his $158.4 million ($1.17 million US) prize from the nation’s Super Lotto.
He said after winning the lottery:
Normally, I would write down the numbers from the [televised] draw, eat and then go and check my numbers.
I looked at my ticket [that night] and ran into my bathroom and said: ‘I won! I won!’
I want to get a nice house. I haven’t found it yet, but I’ll be looking for one soon. I like to handle money. I don’t beg, I don’t borrow.
So I’m looking at things that can turn over the money. I have a little business, so I plan to make it bigger, buy an apartment. I love to have money.
A. Cambell isn’t the first lottery winner to wear a mask while claiming his money. Lottery winners in the Caribbean country often wear disguises while collecting their prizes due to high levels of crime in the country, and fears that they will be hounded for money by family and friends.
