Two children among the 6 people injured when car hit a group of pedestrians outside primary school in the UK
Two children have been injured after a car hit a group of pedestrians outside a primary school in England this morning.
The car reportedly went up the kerb and hit a bus stop, injuring 6 people. The accident occurred shortly after 8.30am at a time when the area would have been busy with parents dropping off their children.
A witness at the scene, which was covered in thick fog this morning, told local reporters that the car had hit a bus stop.
I ran outside after hearing a huge bang – it was a really deep thud. It seems as though the car has gone up the kerb, which is quite a way down, and ploughed into the bus stop. I really hope everyone is okay.
Ambulance crews said they were treating six people at the scene near Springhill Academy in Burntwood, West Midlands.
An ambulance spokesman told the Birmingham Mail:
We were called to Springhill Road, Burntwood, at around 8.36am today. Six people have been injured. We are still assessing the injuries. Three ambulances are currently at the scene.
Police said that their injuries were ‘minor’ and received treatment at the scene. No arrests have been made.
A school spokesman said:
We are aware of an incident outside school this morning however, at this stage, we are unable to make a comment.

Ekiti State Government seals People’s FM for not paying N175 million signage fee
The Ekiti State government has just shut down Our People’s FM 104.1, a private Radio Station in Ado Ekiti.
According to reports, the station was invaded with thugs backed by policemen a few minutes ago, beating staff and forcefully locking up the Station’.
In a statement two days before the station was shut down, Layi Oyawa the Head of Station said, ‘we wish to alert the general public of the sinister plot by the government of Ekiti State to illegally and arbitrarily close down Our People’s FM 104.1, a private radio station in Ado Ekiti. Yesterday, we received an Invoice from the State Signage Agency, demanding for a sum of N175 million as levy for what was termed Promotional Materials. The bill was dated February 11, 2019’.
Today, we also received a letter from the State Board of Internal Revenue, giving us 24 hours to comply with the payment of N175 million “Signage Fee.” We never received any letter from the government other than these two.
From our findings, all these are to provide grounds for the planned close down of the radio station for reasons best known to the government.
For the record, Our People’s FM 104.1 started full operations on January 1, 2019 and as at today, we are yet to erect sign post anywhere in Ekiti state. We have also not done any external advertisement to warrant any Signage Fee.
Also, assuming but not conceding that we made external advertisements, how on earth can a radio station that has operated for less than two months incur N175 million Signage Fee?
It is on record that we have operated professionally since we started operations and this has endeared us to radio listeners in Ekiti and its environ.
We have remained nonpartisan and will so remain so as to sustain the confidence of the public.
We therefore urge that we be left alone to continue to discharge our social responsibilities to the people of Ekiti, in particular and Nigerians in general.
If there are genuine demands as to taxes to be paid to the State Government by our organization, we are ready and willing to dialogue with the government with a view to reaching an amicable resolution.

‘It is your turn to prove that nobody’s political ambition is worth the blood of any citizen” Ex- President Goodluck Jonathan calls for credible 2019 elections
Former President, Goodluck Jonathan has called for peaceful 2019 elections. He made the call in a statement on Thursday, February 14. Read below:
My dear citizens of our beloved country Nigeria,
My name is Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan and I bring good tidings for Nigeria and for you.
Today, I want to talk to you about the coming elections this Saturday, February 16, 2019.
My simple message to you is that if you love Nigeria, you must come out to vote.
As a wise man once said “The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.”
You are all good Nigerians. I therefore urge you to come out and vote based on your conscience and conviction.
The best antidote to rigging of elections is a high voter turnout. Remember, none of us is greater than all of us.
I proved that my political ambition is not worth the blood of any Nigerian. Now it is your turn to prove that nobody’s political ambition is worth the blood of any citizen.
Shun violence, shun hatred. Come out this Saturday and vote peacefully for the Nigeria of your choice. Remember, we are all brothers and sisters born from the womb of one mother Nigeria.
May God bless Nigeria. GEJ.

However, First Grade Magistrate Cecilia Onsewa said the convict deserved stiff punishment to deter would-be offenders.

Iowa hotel settles with woman who was raped and battered in her hotel room after front desk gave her room key to the attacker
A woman who was raped and battered in her hotel room after front desk gave her room key to a man whose advances she rejected, has been settled by the hotel.
Cheri Marchionda was staying at the Embassy Suites hotel in Des Moines in April 2014 as part of a business trip. While in the hotel’s bar, a man later identified as Christopher LaPointe of New York, approached her. She rejected his advances and later went to bed.
But she woke up to find LaPointe in her hotel room touching her leg. He then battered and sexually assaulted her over several hours.
Police later learned that LaPointe had asked the front desk for a key to Marchionda’s room and they gave him the key without asking him to show proof that he was registered to the room or even a hotel guest.
When he had trouble getting into the room because Marchionda had engaged the door’s safety latch, LaPointe convinced a maintenance worker to disable it, telling the worker he had had a fight with his “girlfriend” and she had locked him out of the room.
Investigators say the maintenance worker let LaPointe in unaccompanied and left.
Marchionda waved her right to anonymity in hopes of serving as an advocate for hotel safety and sexual assault victims.
Attorneys for Cheri Marchionda say the operators of the Embassy Suites Hotel in Des Moines agreed to a settlement before she was set to testify Wednesday. Terms were not disclosed.
Christopher LaPointe, of New York, is serving a 20-year prison sentence for the 2014 attack.
Below are Twitter users’ reactions to the rape incident.
