The Borno State Government on Thursday confirmed that three persons were killed in an attack by Boko Haram insurgents on Gov. Kashim Shettima’s convoy along Maiduguri-Gamboru Road.

Malam Isa Gusau, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Communications and Strategy, who confirmed the incident in a statement issued in Maiduguri, disclosed that preliminary reports confirmed the killing of three persons in the attack when the insurgents ambushed some vehicles on the governor’s convoy on Tuesday evening.

He said that the incident occurred when the governor was campaigning in the area, adding that he had since returned to Maiduguri on Wednesday evening.

Gusau disclosed that the governor would on Thursday; hold security meeting with heads of security agencies to get briefs on the incident. Red full statement below:

Governor Kashim Shettima mourns, with the deepest thoughts and heartfelt condolences, the demise of some fellow citizens, brothers, associates and loyal supporters following an unfortunate ambush of some vehicles in his convoy by suspected insurgents on Tuesday evening along the road to Gamboru, headquarters of Ngala local government area.
While the Governor is expecting full security briefing to get accurate information on the incident, preliminary report on Wednesday, confirmed the killing of three persons during the attack, which principally aimed to attract local and global media attention in order to sustain propaganda strategy and to instil fear in citizens and gallant troops.
Governor Shettima who returned at night yesterday, will today (Thursday) meet families of those affected by the attack. The Governor will also meet some security heads to review the incident and more importantly, to continue his determined collaboration with all security agencies and volunteers in remaining committed to the ongoing fight against Boko Haram. The unfortunate incident will not make the Governor have doubt in the capacity of the gallant and patriotic personnel of the Nigerian armed forces who have dedicated their lives fighting for peace and the freedom of Borno people. The Governor has absolute confidence in the armed forces and given his access to raw updates, he is aware of the successes being recorded by the armed forces despite Tuesday’s and previous attacks by the insurgents. For one success recorded by the insurgents, the armed forces record dozens against them. The Governor remains optimistic and urges citizens to be calm, prayerful and supportive of the Nigerian armed forces and volunteers through means that include (as they have been doing) the sharing of useful information.
Tuesday’s incident happened while the Governor was on his way to Gamboru in continuation of campaigns for the Presidential and national assembly elections coming up on Saturday. The Governor had left Maiduguri on Tuesday morning and stopped for campaigns in Mafa and Dikwa local government areas before heading to Gamboru where he passed the night and returned to Maiduguri on Wednesday. He had on Monday traveled to Damasak, headquarters of Mobbar local government area in northern Borno. Before then, he had previously held campaigns in most parts of northern Borno including Monguno where he spent the night. He had also been to all the nine local government areas of southern Borno including Chibok, Gwoza, Askira-Uba and Biu where he spent days.
The Governor extends his deepest gratitude to friends, associates and other well meaning Nigerians that have shown concern over the incident.

Comedian Michael Blackson puts all his Gucci belongings up for sale

Michael Blackson has put all his Gucci brand up for sale following the recent blackface scandal.

I’m not going to 50 cent them but they are up for auction and all proceeds will go towards single mothers from my ig live. If you wear 9.5-10 you will fit them. Let’s start the bids at $100.

Billionaire philanthropist, Michael Bloomberg plans to spend at least $500 million from his own pocket to deny Trump a second term

Billionaire philanthropist Michael Bloomberg is preparing to spend at least $500 million from his own pocket to deny President Donald Trump a second term.

Bloomberg who’s worth an estimated $50 billion has not announced whether or not he’ll run for president but Democratic operatives told Politico that the billionaire former mayor of New York is prepared to spend big either way.

If he runs, Bloomberg will use the funds to fuel his campaign through the crowded Democratic primary where at least 10 contenders are already vying for the party’s nomination. If he doesn’t run, he would use the money to run a data-heavy campaign that would work as a shadow apparatus for the Democratic nominee.

‘That’ll get us through the first few months. Mike spent $100 million in his last New York City election. And you can do the math as you think more broadly but New York City is 3 percent of the national population/ I’m not suggesting it’s straight math.

But I’m suggesting that when Mike Bloomberg is committed to making a difference and seeing something though, generally speaking he’s pretty unabashed in doing so’ Kevin Sheekey, a top Bloomberg advisor told Politico.

It’s not the first time the former mayor’s team has indicated Bloomberg is willing to heavily invest in getting Trump out of the Oval Office. In December, Bloomberg’s top political adviser Howard Wolfson indicated to CNBC that Bloomberg was willing to put his money where his mouth was and spend more than $100 million to win the presidency.

#NigeriaDecides: ‘The ballot paper is not finger sensitive, you can vote with any finger’ – INEC

Following the confusion and social media speculations that INEC may have secretly changed the pattern of fingers allowed for thumb printing on the ballot papers for the 2019 elections, the commision has said that electorate can use any finger to cast their votes in the forthcoming general elections.

The commission made the clarification on its official twitter page @inecnigeria on Wednesday saying the ballot paper is not finger sensitive, but advised the electorate not to allow the indelible ink on their fingers cross into another box.

“A voter can use any finger to vote but should ensure that his or her mark is clear and placed inside the box of the political party of his or her choice and does not stray into another box,’’ it said.

50 Cent savagely mocks Floyd Mayweather for still supporting Gucci despite the blackface scandal

50 Cent has taken to Instagram to drag Floyd Mayweather for still supporting Gucci despite calls to boycott the company over the recent blackface scandal.

African Americans, especially stars like T.I and Spike Lee, called for people to boycott Gucci after they were accused of racism for creating a balaclava jumper that was made to resemble blackface.

But Floyd Mayweather publicly flouted the boycott and spent thousands of dollars as he went on a Gucci shopping spree on Monday night.

Mayweather explained that he went on a Gucci shopping spree because he refuses to let people tell him how to live.

Well, 50 Cent, who is his former friend turned enemy, wasted no time in calling him out for his lack of support for the boycott. The rapper told the boxer that he’s saying all the wrong things and adviced him to get a publicist.

AGF Malami writes INEC, asks for postponement of election polls in Zamfara

The Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mr. Abubakar Malami (SAN) has written to the Independent National Electoral Commission asking the commission to  postpone the National Assembly elections and the governorship and state House of Assembly polls in Zamafara State to enable the All Progressives Congress to field candidates in the exercise in the state.

A copy of the three-page letter bearing Malami’s signature and dated  February 13, 2019  with reference number MJ/DSD/03, emerged online early Thursday.

The letter is without the acknowledgement stamp of the office of INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, to whom it was addressed.

Punch reports that Malami, in the letter, which he said was informed by a petition he received from the law firm of M.A Mahmud & Co.,  anchored his request for the postponement of the elections in Zamfara State on a judgment of the Sokoto Division of the Court of Appeal.

The minister, a founding member of the APC,  said in the letter that the Court of Appeal’s judgment delivered on Wednesday affirmed an earlier verdict of the Zamfara State High Court which had held that the party conducted valid primaries for the various elective positions in the state.

Malami said granting the concession of postponing the polls in Zamfara State in the light of the Court of Appeal’s judgment, was not a matter of doing APC a favour but a right the party was entitled to.

“In view of the fact, now that the Court of Appeal has upheld the primaries as valid, the APC in Zamfara State will need a little time to catch up with its contemporaries in the election.

“Granting them this concession is not necessarily a favour but a right that inures to all contestants under similar circumstances. Consequent on the above, INEC is invited to comply with the judgement of the Court of Appeal by admitting the results of the APC Zamfara State Primaries and to also comply with the provisions of Section38 of the Electoral Act which empowers INEC to postpone the election for the governorship, National Assembly and House of Assembly Elections.” he said

The minister’s claim was however debunked by  Chief Mike Ozehome (SAN), a lawyer acting for Senator Kabir Marafa and others involved in the appeal. Speaking to newsmen, Ozekhome said,

“There is absolutely no legal basis whatsoever for this letter which is clearly meant to circumvent the judicial process already activated by all parties concerned. I act for Senator Kabiru Marafa, Hon Dauda Lawal and others.”

INEC had insisted that it would not accommodate APC’s candidates in the forthcoming polls due to the party’s alleged failure to conduct valid primaries in the state.

The Zamfara State High Court, however, ruled in its judgment that the party held valid primaries, contrary to a pronouncement of the Federal High Court in Abuja, that the party did not conduct any valid primaries.

In the face of the two conflicting judgments from the courts of coordinate jurisdiction, INEC insisted that it would stick to its original position that the APC failed to conduct valid primaries in the state and therefore would not be allowed to field candidates for the polls.

Malami, however, stated in his letter to INEC that the Sokoto Division of the Court of Appeal in appeal marked CA/S/23/2019 affirmed the Zamfara State High Court’s judgment and nullified the Federal High Court’s.

He, therefore, asked INEC to invoke the provisions of section 38 and 39 of the Electoral (Amendment) Act 2010 to postpone the elections in order to give room to APC to field candidates and catch up with its contemporaries in the polls.

“You may further wish to recall that In Suit No.FHC/ABJ/CS/1279/2018 – ALL PROGRESSIVES CONGRESS (APC) V. INEC & 5 ORS, the Federal High Court held that the nullification of the said Zamfara APC primaries by INEC was lawful. However, this decision has been upturned in Appeal No CA/S/23/2019. Copy is also attached for ease of reference.

“In the circumstance and in consideration of the provisions of Sections 38 and 39 of the Electoral Act, 2010, the law allows INEC the latitude and discretion to extend the time within which a political party may duly field a candidate for an election where unforeseen circumstances constrained such a party from doing so within the stipulated time frame.” he said

Mauro Icardi stripped of Inter Milan captaincy amidst rumours he”s leaving the club

Mauro Icardi has been stripped of the Inter Milan captaincy and replaced with goalkeeper Samir Handanovic amid speculation the Argentina forward is set to leave the club.

The Italian club announced on Wednesday that, “the club can confirm that Samir Handanovic is the new captain of the team”.

The switch comes as Icardi, 25, has yet to sign a new contract amid protracted negotiations between the club and his wife Wanda Nara, who also acts as his agent. The Argentine has been left out of the team’s Europa League round of 32, first-leg game at Rapid Vienna on Thursday.

Icardi, valued at 100 million euros ($113 million), has been linked with a move away from Italy to Spanish giants Real Madrid or Chelsea in England.
