Los Blancos need to fill the void left by the Portuguese superstar, but none of their targets are available and they may have to make do as they are.

A year ago on Thursday, Neymar left Barcelona for Paris Saint-Germain and the Blaugrana were left scrambling for overpriced players to replace the brilliant Brazilian in the remainder of the transfer window.

Real Madrid now find themselves in a similar situation. They have had more time than Barca did following the surprise sale of Cristiano Ronaldo to Juventus last month, yet they are no nearer to bringing in a replacement for a player considered one of the best in their history.

Cristiano contributed an amazing 450 goals in 438 games for Los Blancos across nine seasons in Spain and for all the talent in Julen Lopetegui’s squad, there is not a player who can offer such stats. In fact, there are hardly any footballers in the world who could do so.

That is the dilemma for Real and for club chief Florentino Perez. The Madrid president initially earned fame for his Galacticos policy, yet he has not made such a signing since buying James Rodriguez for €80 million after the 2014 World Cup.

These days, the world’s finest footballers are condensed at just a few super clubs, of which Real remain the biggest. With Ronaldo now gone and Lionel Messi off limits at Barcelona, there are only a handful of options for a replacement for the Portuguese – and all represent difficult deals to complete.

Neymar and Kylian Mbappe were the two top targets for Real, but the Spanish side have released statements this summer saying they will not be bringing in either player.

Both the Brazilian and the France forward are not for sale and have spent just one season each at PSG. Right now, signing either is impossible.

Eden Hazard looked like he could be the man to replace Ronaldo. The Belgium attacker impressed at the World Cup and picked up the Silver Ball for the competition’s second-best player.

He also hinted afterwards that he might like to leave Chelsea, and made it pretty clear where he would want to play next.

However, new Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri is desperate to keep Hazard and with Madrid also looking to sign Blues goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois, a move for the midfielder now seems improbable.

The west London side are also set to ask for a huge fee and that is likely to deter Real considering he is not even their first choice.

Harry Kane is another player admired by Los Blancos, but the Tottenham striker will not be following Gareth Bale and Luka Modric from Spurs to Madrid this summer.

The north Londoners are an established Champions League club these days, while Kane is a fan, has signed a new deal recently and is not interested in moving at the moment.

Other options include Robert Lewandowski, but the Bayern Munich forward is 30 this month and would not really be considered a Ronaldo replacement anyway, rather more a player who could compete with Karim Benzema for the central striker slot.

Lopetegui is keen to bring in another striker, but it may not be a big name and in terms of a high-profile signing, there are not many alternatives, which is perhaps why Florentino distanced himself from the Galactico policy when he spoke at the presentation of young goalkeeper Andriy Lunin on Monday.

“Little by little we are laying the foundations of our team’s present and future,” he said. “We want to incorporate the young talent that will shape the future, players who aspire to the maximum.”

Lunin is 19, while Madrid have also snapped up 22-year-old Spain right-back Alvaro Odriozola this summer, as well as unveiling Brazilian attacker Vinicius Junior, who was signed last year and will now join Real from Flamengo following his recent 18th birthday.

Vinicius earned some rave reviews in the Madrid media for his performance in the pre-season defeat to Manchester United this week and even though those were exaggerated, he definitely does look like a talent for the future.

Some reports had claimed Vinicius would go out on loan this season, but it was confirmed during his presentation that he will be link up with the first team, while Gareth Bale is also staying put despite his claims after the Champions League final that he wants more minutes.

With Ronaldo out of the picture, his place in the team when fit is virtually guaranteed and Lopetegui has backed the Welsh winger to enjoy a strong season.

“Cristiano Ronaldo is one of the main players in the recent history of Real Madrid,” he said this week. “He expressed a desire to leave and we allowed him to. Gareth Bale is a magnificent player, with so many qualities. He can help fill the void.”

Benzema will also be expected to start frequently, leaving Isco, Marco Asensio, Lucas Vazquez and Vinicius to compete for one of the other positions in attack or in midfield alongside Luka Modric, Toni Kroos and Casemiro.

So, in what was always likely to be a transitional season for Real Madrid and more so following the departures of Zinedine Zidane and Ronaldo, the club now look to have shelved their plans for a marquee signing to replace Ronaldo.

And with no suitable star player available anyway without playing a king’s ransom, it is probably the best decision they could make.

Kovacic asks to leave Real Madrid

Mateo Kovacic has asked to leave Real Madrid, Marca reports.

The Spanish outlet claims the midfielder met with new boss Julen Lopetegui for the first time and requested that he be able to find a new club.

It is said that the coach tried to convince Kovacic to stay, but the player himself is convinced that the best thing for his career is to move away from the Santiago Bernabeu.

Golovin could open Barca’s path to Willian

images (16).jpeg

Chelsea may be open to selling Willian to Barcelona if they secure Aleksandr Golovin as his replacement, Mundo Deportivo reports.

It is claimed that Barcelona have submitted several bids for the Brazilian, all of which have been rebuffed thus far this summer.

Should Chelsea land Russian World Cup star Golovin, however, the Liga champions may find the Blues more open to negotiations over Willian’s future.

Transfer news & rumours LIVE: Chelsea working on Martial deal

Chelsea are working on a deal to sign Anthony Martial from Manchester United, per The Times.

With Eden Hazard desperate to leave the club to join Real Madrid, the Blues are on the hunt for a replacement and are keen on Martial, who has also expressed a desire to depart his current club.

United value Martial at €100 million (£89m/$117m) and Bayern Munich are also interested, but Chelsea believe they can secure him for a cheaper fee.

Ozil blasts media & sponsors in second Erdogan statement

images (14)

The Germany international first made it clear that he was paying homage to his roots, and has now moved to denounce the press and unfaithful partners.

Mesut Ozil has released a second statement in response to the criticism both he and Ilkay Gundogan received in the wake of meeting with Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the Arsenal player this time taking aim at the German media and disloyal sponsors.

Ozil released the first piece of a three-part statement on Sunday morning, stating from the outset that there was no political agenda involved and that he was merely paying respect to the political office of the country of his ancestors.

The 29-year-old has now released a second statement, in which the midfielder blasts the hypocrisy of the German media and slammed several of his sponsors for pulling him from promotions and events.

The statement reads:

“I know that I am a footballer who has played in arguably the three toughest leagues in the world. I’ve been fortunate to receive great support from my teammates and coaching staff while playing in the Bundesliga, La Liga and the Premier League. And in addition, throughout my career, I’ve learnt to deal with the media.

“A lot of people talk about my performances – many applaud and many criticise. If a newspaper or pundit finds fault in a game I play in, then I can accept this – I’m not a perfect footballer and this often motivates me to work and train harder. But what I can’t accept are German media outlets repeatedly blaming my dual-heritage and a simple picture for a bad World Cup on behalf of an entire squad.

“Certain German newspapers are using my background and photo with President Erdogan as right-wing propaganda to further their political cause. Why else did they use pictures and headlines with my name as a direct explanation for defeat in Russia? They didn’t criticise my performances, they didn’t criticise the team’s performances, they just criticised my Turkish ancestry and respect for my upbringing. This crosses a personal line that should never be crossed, as newspapers try to turn the nation of Germany against me.

“What I also find disappointing are the double standards that the media has. Lothar Matthaus (an honorary German national team captain) met with another world leader a few days back, and received almost no media criticism. Despite his role with the DFB (German national team), they have not asked him to publicly explain his actions and he continues to represent the players of Germany without any reprimand. If the media felt that I should have been left out of the World Cup squad, then surely he should be stripped of his honorary captaincy? Does my Turkish heritage make me a more worthy target?

“I’ve always thought that a ‘partnership’ infers support, both in the good times and also during tougher situations. Recently, I planned to visit my former school in Berger-Feld in Gelsenkirchen, Germany, along with two of my charitable partners. I funded a project for one year where immigrant children, children from poor families and any other children can play football together and learn social rules for life. However, days before we were schedule to go, I was abandoned by my so-called ‘partners’, who no longer wanted to work with me at this time. To add to this, the school told my management that they no longer wanted me to be there at this time, as they ‘feared the media’ due to my picture with President Erdogan, especially with the ‘right-wing party in Gelsenkirchen on the rise’. In all honesty, this really hurt. Despite being a student of their back when I was younger, I was made to feel unworthy of their time.

“In addition to this, I was renounced by another partner. As they are also a sponsor of the DFB, I was asked to take part in promotional videos for the World Cup. Yet after my picture with President Erdogan, they took me out of the campaigns and cancelled all promotional activities that were scheduled. For them, it was no longer good to be seen with me and called the situation ‘crisis management’. This is all ironic because a German Ministry declared their products to have illegal and unauthorized software devices in them, which puts customers at risk. Hundreds of thousands of their products are getting recalled. Whilst I was being criticised and asked to justify my actions by the DFB, there was no such official and public explanation demanded of the DFB sponsor. Why? Am I right in thinking this is worse than a picture with the President of my family’s country? What does the DFB have to say about all this?

“As I said before, ‘partners’ should stick with you in all situations. Adidas, Beats and BigShoe have been extremely loyal and amazing to work with in this time. They rise above the nonsense created by the German press and media, and we carry out our projects in a professional manner that I really enjoy being part of. During the World Cup, I worked with BigShoe and helped get 23 young children life-changing surgeries in Russia, which I have also done previously in Brazil and Africa. This for me is the most important thing that I do as a football player, yet the newspapers find no space to raise awareness about this sort of thing. For them, me being booed or taking a picture with a President is more significant than helping children get surgeries worldwide.

“They too have a platform to raise awareness and funds, but choose not to do so.”

Man Utd chasing Barca youngster

Barcelona could lose yet another La Masia product this summer as Nico Gonzalez weighs up a move to Manchester United, Sport reports.

The 16-year-old is considered something of a wonderkid, capable of dictating matches from the centre of midfield – often with the captain’s armband.

Should the starlet opt to leave, he will become the fifth Camp Nou casualty after Pablo Moreno, Robert Navarro, Adria Bernabe and Joel Lopez all took off for pastures new.

Would Liverpool sell Salah for £200m?

images (12)

Liverpool may have tied Mohamed Salah to a new five-year contract, but John Barnes says they would still sell to Real Madrid if a £200 million ($266m) bid is tabled.

The former Reds star said: “Every club is a selling club. If Real Madrid offered £200m for Salah then he’d go and Liverpool would then be a selling club.”

Manchester United are readying a €40m (£35.3/$47m) bid for PSV winger Hirving Lozano, according to Tuttomercatoweb.

The Mexico international star is under contract until 2023 and has attracted a great deal of interest following 17 goals in the Eredivisie last term.

Arsenal, Liverpool and Barcelona have also been linked with the attacker, who will turn 23 on July 30.

World Cup Golden Boot frontrunner likened to legend Gary Lineker

images (10).jpeg

‘Harry Kane is a born goalscorer’ and ‘he is just like’ England legendary striker Gary Lineker, says Henry Abiodun ahead of Saturday’s World Cup quarter-final clash against Sweden.

Kane leads the race for the Golden Boot after netting six goals, two better than closest contender Romelu Lukaku.

However, the manner in which Gareth Southgate’s captain has done it has left some fumings.

The Tottenham Hotspur striker has scored three goals from open play [two headers in their opener against Tunisia and a deflection in the mauling of Panama], with the other half coming from the penalty spot.

But according to the Sunshine Stars boss, it doesn’t matter how the goals come, as they would arrive naturally, eventually – just as it was for former Three Lion, Lineker, scorer of 48 goals in 80 international caps.

“In this World Cup we’ve seen so many big stars and penalty specialists miss their kicks, but Kane has always been calm and delivered his own – even in games where he had to take them twice, he scored both,” Abiodun told Goal.

“The thing is; Kane is a born goalscorer, he’d always get the goals no matter what, no matter how they come. Penalties, deflections, he’d always get them.

“He’s just like Gary Lineker.

“The past seasons in the English Premier League he’s always been one of the top goalscorers.

Bundesliga trio battle Arsenal for Pavard

images (7).jpeg

Bundesliga trio Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig are all interested in France World Cup star Benjamin Pavard, L’Equipe reports.

Bayern Munich have already made an enquiry to sound out Stuttgart about the possibility of selling the 22-year-old defender, who scored a stunning goal in France’s 4-2 win over Argentina to send them into the last eight.

Arsenal have also been linked with a move for Pavard, but could have to wait until 2019 as Stuttgart look to retain his services for at least another season.

Milan reject €50m Romagnoli bid from Man Utd

images (5).jpeg

Manchester United’s €50 million (£44m/$58m) offer for Alessio Romagnoli has been rejected by AC Milan, according to Corriere dello Sport.

Jose Mourinho is in the market for a new centre-back and would like to bring the 23-year-old to Old Trafford, but has seen his initial offer turned down by the Serie A club.

Romagnoli signed a new four-year contract with Milan in June and the club are eager to keep hold of him as they see him as a long-term solution in defence.

Cristiano Ronaldo will leave Real Madrid for Juventus this summer after seeing a transfer request granted, claims Jugones.

The Blancos have bowed to the demands of the Portuguese superstar and will sanction a €100 million (£88m/$116m) deal.

Juventus are prepared to pay the 33-year-old €30m-a-year on a contract through to 2022.

Easy Workouts to Lose Weight Fast

You don’t have to kill yourself at the gym every day to slim down. There are easy exercises to lose weight that you can do at home or on the go.  In fact, sometimes easy workouts work better.

So before you try CrossFit, join a hardcore boot camp class, or sign up for heavy duty HIIT program, find out how fast weight loss exercises can speed up weight loss and then incorporate one of these workout routines into your schedule.

Easy Exercises to Lose Weight Fast

To lose weight, you need to create a specific calorie deficit. For example, you might want to reach a 500-calorie deficit each day to lose one pound per week. Or you might set a goal to reach a 1000-calorie daily deficit to lose 2 pounds per week. Either way, you need to control the number of calories you eat and burn more calories with movement to reach your target.

Many dieters start an intense workout plan to slim down. But, sometimes it’s better to do easy exercises to lose weight fast. There are four ways that easy exercise can help you to slim down:

  • Improve daily non-exercise movement.Easy workouts are designed to increase your heart rate to burn calories, but they shouldn’t wear you down. So you don’t feel the need to take a nap or lay on the couch all day after doing a workout. This helps you to stay active throughout the day and boost the number of calories you burn from NEAT.
  • Exercise every day. When you do easy workouts, you can exercise every day. Hard exercise, on the other hand, requires a recovery day following the session. When you work out daily (instead of 2-3 days per week) you may be able to burn more calories from exercise.
  • Maintain a consistent exercise program.Even though intense exercise is effective for weight loss, hard workouts put your body at a higher risk for injury and burnout. And you’re not likely to burn enough calories for weight loss while you’re recovering on the couch. Easy workouts are usually safer for your body and may allow you to be more consistent, week to week and month to month.
  • Keep hunger levels steady. Hard workouts often increase hunger levels. And sometimes they even increase your sense of entitlement to food. For example, you might feel that you deservea high-calorie meal or treat after hard exercise because you earned it with your effort. But easy workouts are less likely to leave you starving. The result is that you may eat less with an easy fitness program.

If you are healthy enough for vigorous activity, hard workouts are good for your body. High-intensity exercise helps to build muscle and burn fat. But easy workouts can speed up weight loss, too.

2 Easy Workouts to Lose Weight Fast

There are two easy workout routines listed below. Choose a fitness plan based on your current level of fitness and health.

1. Easy Exercise Routine for Beginners

This plan works well for people who don’t exercise at all. The easy exercises will jolt your metabolism out of lazy mode and get it moving again. But to make this plan work, you need to keep your workouts short and manageable. That way, you never have an excuse to skip a session.

For this plan, you’ll exercise 1-3 times each day, but each workout won’t last long. You don’t need to change clothes, you probably won’t get too sweaty and you don’t need any extra equipment.

The workout looks like this:

  • 7 minutes fast walk
  • 7 minutes of easy lunges and easy push ups
  • 7 minutes fast walk

You can do this workout at a local park, at your office, or in your home. Set reminders on your smartphone to remind yourself to complete your sessions. Or better yet, recruit a friend to hold you accountable.

Need more of a challenge? Swap brisk stair climbing for walking. If you are at work, climb the office stairs, do lunges on the landing and push-ups against the wall.

Why this easy fitness plan works: The duration of the workout makes it easier to tolerate and more likely that you’ll stick to the plan.

And even though the workouts are short, you are still burning substantial calories in a short period of time. Done properly three times per day, you can burn up to 300 – 500 calories. If you do this easy workout around mealtime, you’ll probably also shorten the amount of time you spend eating which will help you to decrease the amount of food you want to consume.

2. Easy Exercise Routine for Regular Exercisers

This plan works for people who already exercise. The purpose of this plan is to bump your body out of its regular routine for faster weight loss. You’ll do this by adding more activity to your day, but you’ll keep the extra sessions easy so that your body and brain don’t get burned out.

Your easy workout will consist of adding 30-45 minutes of easy enjoyable activity at the opposite end of your day as your normal workout. If you work out in the morning, add a brisk evening walk to your schedule. Do you exercise in the evenings? Consider biking or walking to work in the morning.

Why this easy fitness plan works: It’s common for people who exercise regularly to do the same routine week after week. If you do the same exercises at the same intensity all the time you’ll get the same results. Your body hits a plateau. This plan increases your activity level without added stress or strain to your joints. So you burn more calories without taxing your body.

Boost Your Easy Exercise Routine for Faster Weight Loss

Your new easy exercise routine will help you burn more calories. But you can lose weight faster by adding these challenges:

  • Skip dessert for a week. Grab a small serving of berries instead
  • Skip the drinks that cause weight gainband drink water instead.  Not a fan of water? Learn to make flavored water to curb your cravings.
  • Dump starch. Instead of eating empty calorie white foods like bread, white rice or pasta, fill up on a variety of lean protein and good carbs.

Turn Fast Weight Loss into Long-Term Success

If you stick to your easy workout routine, you should see some change in the scale or in the way your clothes fit after a week or two. Then ask yourself this question: was it worth it?

If the answer is yes, then keep your easy fitness plan going. You may even want to make it more challenging by adding moderate exercise and high intensity sessions. Then start tracking your diet to make sure you eat the right amount of protein to lose weight and maintain muscle.

If the answer is no, don’t worry. Even an easy exercise plan requires a big commitment. You may not have been ready for the investment. But don’t give up entirely. Choose a few parts of the plan that seem manageable and try to incorporate them into your schedule. Your weight loss will happen more slowly, but at least it will happen.

Khloe Kardashian finally speaks out on Tristan Thompson cheating scandal

She clapped back at fans calling her a hypocrite

We’ve been so caught up in the emotional turmoil of Love Island (catch up on the latest here) we’ve kind of forgotten about all the IRL drama going down in the celeb world of late.

Cast your minds back to April 2018, before that pesky love rat Adam Collard had snaked his way around the whole Love Island villa and public enemy number one was Khloe’s boyfriend Tristan Thompson.

You may remember, just days before Khloe was due to give birth to their first child, video footage emerged of Tristan seemingly kissing a mystery woman. It then transpired that Tristan had allegedly cheated on Khloe in New York.

Screen Shot 2018-06-26 at 11.37.46 AM

There has since been lots of speculation over whether Khloe would leave Tristan, with latest reports suggesting the couple are staying together and raising their daughter True in LA.

Now Khloe has addressed the situation for the first time, snapping back at a fan on Twitter who labelled her a hyprocrite.

© Twitter

Khloe had some strong words when a Twitter user going by the name Queen Persia said she was ‘disappointed’in Khloe. “I love, adore & root for @khloekardashian but I’m so disappointed she stayed with that wasteman Tristan. she preaches about women knowing their self worth and when to walk away but when it’s time to walk the walk, she’s a hypocrite.”

© Twitter

Khloe then replied: “Not exactly Queen Persia, you have no knowledge of what goes on in our household or the enormous rebuilding this takes to even coexist. I’m proud of my strength. I appreciate your opinion and I hope you hold that same opinion to everyone else who has stayed in situations.”

Nigeria and Argentina will be battling it out for a last-16 spot at the World Cup, and Jorge Sampaoli’s side could make some unwanted history.

Argentina are currently enduring their longest winless run in World Cup finals history (D2 L2) and have never previously gone through a first-round World Cup group stage without at least one victory before.

The last time Argentina failed to progress past the group stages of the World Cup was in 2002 – with their sole victory that year coming against Nigeria – but coach Sampaoli has urged to his side to give their best performance on Tuesday.

“We have to make our goal five games to reach the final. Tomorrow will be the first final,” he said. “No matter who plays tomorrow will have the obligation to give until the last bead of sweat so that Argentina will go through.

“We don’t have any alternative and I am sure this is how it will go. Tomorrow, I am sure that they will see the best version of Argentina at this World Cup.”

If Argentina beat Nigeria in their final game and Croatia beat Iceland, Argentina go through. They will also go through if they beat Nigeria, Iceland beat Croatia, and Argentina’s goal difference betters Iceland.

But Nigeria can qualify with a draw or win against Argentina if Iceland lose or draw against Croatia, and coach Gernot Rohr was ruthless when asked about ending Lionel Messi’s World Cup campaign, which could potentially be his last.

“We love this great player, Messi, everybody loves him,” he said. “The question is not if it is the last World Cup for him or not, the question is for us to be qualified.

“We are not here to watch him play. We are here to make a result, we are professionals. We are here to defend the colours of Nigeria and we know in football there is no mercy, no pity, everybody wants to win and we cannot make any gifts even if we like very much this player.”

Team news

Angel Di Maria and Ever Banega could be recalled to the starting XI, while Gonzalo Higuain and Paolo Dybala are also available.

Nigeria captain John Obi Mikel is set to play with his left hand in a cast after sustaining a fracture against Iceland, although will need to get the all-clear from match officials to wear the protective material.

Opta stats

Four of the eight games between Nigeria and Argentina have come at World Cup finals – Argentina winning all four contests.

Nigeria have faced Argentina in the group stages in each of their last three World Cups (2002, 2010, 2014).

Nigeria’s most recent encounter with Argentina came in November 2017, with the Super Eagles winning 4-2 in Krasnodar, thanks in part to a brace from Alex Iwobi.

All six of Nigeria’s wins at the World Cup have come against European opposition, with the Super Eagles drawing two and losing five against nations from other continents.

Nigeria are looking to win successive World Cup games for the first time since 1998 – three points will also guarantee a place in the knockout stages for the fourth time.

Nigerian attacker Ahmed Musa is now his country’s all-time top scorer in World Cup games with four goals after scoring twice against Iceland.

Messi has had 12 shots in this World Cup so far but has yet to score – that’s eight more attempts than any other Argentina player.

Charlie’s prediction

In terms of performance, it can’t get any worse for Argentina. I actually thought that when Jorge Sampaoli got the job he would sort out the structure of the team and build it in a fashion that made Lionel Messi return. Messi has returned but they just don’t have any answers. They don’t know what to do, they have no DNA and they have absolutely no fluency.

What I cannot believe is that he cannot get Sergio Aguero, Gonzalo Higuain and Paulo Dybala into the team with the way Messi plays. For me, it’s staring him in the face, just play them all together and go for it. The defence isn’t great, we know that, but he has to take the biggest risk of all time now. I see this game being a bit like Germany’s against Sweden. Pressure will come on Argentina but this time we’ll see an answer from Messi. On the other hand, it’s a stunning opportunity for Nigeria and they will make life difficult for Messi and co.
