NANS FROWNS AT INCESSANT RAPING AND BRUTAL KILLING OF NIGERIAN STUDENTS CHARGES OSUN STATE COMMISSIONER OF POLICE TO KEY INTO MEASURES THAT WOULD SAFEGUARD SOUTH WEST STUDENTS

A242E879-6280-4BCC-8CFD-BF7EF3207E3E

We cannot stand akimbo and watch our colleagues being sexually harassed,molested and eventually killed by unscrupulous criminals who are always jittery to decimate the very bright future of our distinguished members. We are always enshrined in prolonged tribulation when hearing the depressing news about demise of our dear Students. This year alone, enormous innocent Students who are leaders of this country tomorrow have been lowered into the soil as a result of rape. We cannot just continue with this ugly scenario that’s why it has been taken upon the leadership of NANS ZONE D to visit Osun State Commissioner of Police and discuss important issues with him. Despite the Commissioner’s hectic schedules, we have applaud him for granting our impromptu notice of invitation.

The executive members of the association were led by the Coordinator to the CP’s office for roundtable dialogue. Comrade Kappo Samuel Olawale being the Coordinator, formally introduced executive members on ground and the entourages. He used the medium to eulogise the reputable CP stating his good relationship with Ondo State Students when he was serving in the state. He also lauded the CP’s giant strides towards ensuring Osun state maintains its position as the most peaceful state in South west.

Furthermore, the Coordinator asked the Commissioner of Police why rape cases are daily issues in the news. He asked why are some heartless criminals interested in raping? The CP painstakingly responded. He said not all men have the courage to stand before women. Not all young males have the ideas to express their emotional feelings before young females. Many young males are interested in dating but don’t know how to convince their female counterparts. Having tried repeatedly with no result, they believe the next line of action is to forcefully achieve their aim. YHE CP told NANS delegation that some journalists came to interview him some days ago asking the correlation between poverty and rape. The CP said according to his response, it has no correlation with rape. He cited instances where fathers raped their children, instances where the affluents raped the paupers to quench their sexual urge.

The Coordinator also encouraged the CP to assist us towards ensuring reopening of schools across the country. The security officials also have solid relationship with government it would fasten our move is forces are combined together. The CP said he would be extraordinarily elated if schools are opened today. He said his children too are sleeping at home doing nothing. He acceded to our request and promised to join the leadership of the zone in the movement.

The CP condemned the acts of some parents of victims of rape. When case is set to reach s meaningful conclusion, as a result of unnecessary trepidation, they come to withdraw. This is bad and not helping the police. Conclusively, the CP expressed his satisfaction on the leadership of the zone and promised to work harmoniously with Kappo led administration.

Fire razes 23 shops in Kwara market

fire

About 23 shops and goods believed to worth millions of Naira were destroyed in a fire incident yesterday March 17 at Owode market in Offa, Kwara State.

The fire reportedly started by 1a.m, however the arrival of firefighters prevented the inferno from spreading to other shops and houses in the vicinity.

The Head, Media and Publicity of the Kwara State Fire Service, Hassan Hakeem Adekunle who confirmed the incident said it is suspected an electric spark caused the incident.

He said;

“If not because of the quick intervention of the Fire Brigade, the disaster would have been greater. About 23 shops were affected due to the little delay in reaching out to the Fire Brigade. “The cause of the inferno was suspected to be an electric spark, even though the intelligent team of the state Fire Brigade is still working on that to unravel and ascertain the actual cause or causes of the fire outbreak.”

Princess Beatrice is reportedly postponing her wedding again due to the coronavirus crisis.

According to a report from People, the granddaughter of Queen Elizabeth could have to reschedule her upcoming wedding for the third time after already changing the date due to her father’s association with the Jeffrey Epstein scandal.

Back in February, a source told People: “The date was changed two times to adjust [around Andrew’s scandal]. It will be smaller than the original plan.”

Beatrice, the eldest daughter of Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson, finally decided to get married on May 29 at St. James’s Palace in London with a reception to follow at Queen Elizabeth’s gardens at Buckingham Palace.

However, due to the spread of coronavirus, the Queen has cancelled all upcoming garden parties.

People notes that the details of the wedding, like the new date, are still being worked out and neither Beatrice or her fiancé, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, have commented.

Don’t take Ibuprofen for coronavirus symptoms – WHO

ibro

The World Health Organization has warned against taking Ibuprofen for symptoms of coronavirus which includes runny nose, sore throat, cough and fever.

The warning came after French health officials warned that anti-inflammatory drugs could worsen effects of the virus.

Commenting on a recent study in The Lancet medical journal, French Health Minister Olivier Veran said it was hypothesised that an enzyme boosted by anti-inflammatory drugs such as ibuprofen could facilitate and worsen COVID-19 infections.

Veran stressed that coronavirus cases should take paracetamol instead, while those already being treated with anti-inflammatory drugs should ask advice from their doctor.

When asked about the study, WHO spokesman Christian Lindmeier told reporters in Geneva the UN health agency’s experts were “looking into this to give further guidance.”

He added;

“In the meantime, we recommend using rather paracetamol, and do not use ibuprofen as a self-medication. That’s important.

“If ibuprofen had been prescribed by the healthcare professionals, then, of course, that’s up to them.”

AFP reported that a spokesperson for British pharmaceutical company Reckitt Benckiser, which makes Nurofen, said in an email statement that the company was aware of concerns raised about “the use of steroids and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory (NSAIDs) products, including ibuprofen, for the alleviation of COVID-19 symptoms.”

The statement added;

“Consumer safety is our number one priority. Ibuprofen is a well-established medicine that has been used safely as a self-care fever and pain reducer, including in viral illnesses, for more than 30 years.

“We do not currently believe there is any proven scientific evidence linking over-the-counter use of ibuprofen to the aggravation of COVID-19.

“Reckitt Benckiser is engaging with the WHO, EMA (the European Medicines Agency) and other local health authorities on the issue and would provide any additional information or guidance necessary for the safe use of our products following any such evaluation.”

He said;

“Today we have a further increase of six local transmission cases. As part of tracking and tracing, we have collated background information on how these patients were infected. We will provide more information to the public to make them aware of how these local transmissions occur.

“We will however not disclose full details as this information is subject to patient confidentiality which we are bound by.

“I must inform the public that there was a debate with clinicians, epidemiologists [and] virologists on when we, as government must release results to the public. These experts raised an issue of an ethical obligation to immediately alert patients as soon as the results become available.

“This therefore means that by the time a confirmation test is conducted in public laboratories, patients would have been notified of their initial results. This clarification is important because as government, we had announced to the public that all positive results will be verified through our public laboratories and the NICD.

“There was so many positive responses to, you know, me talking about it. Some negative too. But there were some definite positive ones. I certainly felt…my wife and I felt like it was the right thing to do, to share it with you guys.

“Right now though, I am feeling okay. Woke up this morning, didn’t have any symptoms. My voice is a little tired…checking my fever twice a day. Feel good, feel okay. Been doing a lot of reading about it. You know, asymptomatic is what comes up.”

Addressing the controversy over his wife being beside him despite how contagious the virus is, Idris said, “Sabrina‘s good too. Sabrina today finally managed to get a test, and we’re thankful for that. Generally, Sabrina‘s fine. Nervous of course. Worried. Just for clarification, Sabrina wanted to be by my side.”

In the wake of the notice received by our HR unit about a possible COVID-19 exposure among our staff, our business swung into extreme actions by placing the office building under lock and keys, suspending business operations, and subjecting all employees that could have been in contact with the staff to mandatory and monitored quarantine, separate from their families, till we received the result of the test carried out on the exposed staff. Gas explosion in Abule Ado was caused by too much pressure on pipeline – NEMA

explo

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) on Monday March 16, disclosed that the gas explosion witnessed in Abule Ado community of Lagos State on Sunday March 15, was caused by too much pressure on the pipeline.

Southwest Coordinator of the agency, Ibrahim Farinloye debunked claim of the gas explosion being as a result of a bomb blast or Improvised Explosives Devices (IED). Farilonye told newsmen that preliminary security analysis showed that an eight-tonne truck laden with core stone and parked on the pipeline, exerted too much pressure on it. Fuel which escaped from the pipeline after the pressure stayed on overnight, saturated the atmosphere, formed a whitish substance and exploded.

Commissioner of Police (CP) in charge of the Explosives Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Maikudi Shehu also backed claims of the explosion not being caused by a bomb or an IED.

He said;

“I can tell you that there was no IED there. The blast was not caused by IED. I am still expecting the report of findings from my officers to know exactly what happened.”

Also recounting how the incident occurred, a resident of the community said the truck got stuck on the pipeline overnight.

An eyewitness said;

“The truck stayed there for so long and with its weight on the pipeline, the fuel in the pipe which is about eight-foot deep was trying to force its way out. That was how a smoke-like substance started forming from under the truck and soon developed into a cloud that covered the entire area and then the blast.”

This is coming after the management of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) said gas cylinders which were stacked in a gas processing plant located near the corporation’s system 2B Pipeline Right of Way caused the explosion after being hit by a truck.
