Family of IS-inspired suicide bombers including 2 children attack three churches in Indonesia; 13 dead, 40 injured

A family of six launched suicide attacks on three churches during services at Indonesia’s second-largest city of Surabaya, killing at least 13 people and wounding 40.

Police said the family who carried out Sunday’s attacks were among 500 Islamic State sympathizers who had returned from Syria.

“The husband drove the car, an Avanza, that contained explosives and rammed it into the gate in front of that church,” East Java police spokesman Frans Barung Mangera told reporters at the regional police headquarters in Surabaya.

The wife and two daughters were involved in an attack on a second church and at the third church “two other children rode the motorbike and had the bomb across their laps”, Mangera said.

The two daughters were aged 12 and 9 while the other two, thought to be the man’s sons, were 18 and 16, police said.

They blamed the bombings on the Islamic State-inspired group Jemaah Ansharut Daulah (JAD).
JAD is an umbrella organisation on a U.S. State Department “terrorist” list that is estimated to have drawn hundreds of Islamic State sympathizers in Indonesia.

Islamic State claimed responsibility for the attacks, in a message carried on its Amaq news agency.

“This act is barbaric and beyond the limits of humanity, causing victims among members of society, the police and even innocent children,” President Joko Widodo said during a visit to the scene of the attacks.

East Java police spokesman Mangera said the attacks had killed at least 13 people and 40 had been taken to hospital, including two police officers.

He called on people to remain calm.
Streets around the bombed churches were blocked by checkpoints and heavily armed police stood guard as forensic and bomb squad officers combined the area for clues.

Television footage showed one church where the yard in front appeared engulfed in fire, with thick, black smoke billowing up. A large blast was heard hours after the attacks, which Mangera said was a bomb disposal squad dealing with a device.

The attacks come several days after five Indonesian police officers and an inmate were killed in clashes at a high-security jail on the outskirts of Jakarta.

The Islamic State (IS) group claimed responsibility for that incident although police rejected its involvement.

The church attacks were likely linked to the prison hostage standoff, said Wawan Purwanto, communication director at Indonesia’s intelligence agency.

“The main target is still security authorities, but we can say that there are alternative (targets) if the main targets are blocked,” he said.

At St Mary’s catholic church, the first place of worship to be attacked, the bombing happened after an earlier mass was over and when the church was getting ready to hold another service.

Family of IS-inspired suicide bombers including 2 children attack three churches in Indonesia; 13 dead, 40 injured

A witness interviewed by CNN Indonesia said shortly before the explosion he saw a person on a motorbike drive in carrying a cardboard box.

Separately, an internal police report reviewed by Reuters said a suspected bomb exploded in a car in the parking lot of a Pentacostal church, setting alight dozens of motorbikes.

In the third location, the Indonesian Christian Church, veiled women entered the church’s yard where they were stopped by a security guard before an explosion occurred at the same spot, according to the police report.

Television images showed toppled and burnt motorcycles and debris scattered around the entrance of one church and police cordoning off areas as crowds gathered.

A spokesman for Indonesia’s church association (PGI) called on the government for more help on security at churches.

“PGI is concerned because this had happened many times and often taken place around the time of Sunday services,” said Jeirry Sumampow, a spokesman for the Indonesia’s Communion of Churches.

Pope Francis offered his prayer to the victims during his Sunday prayer in Rome.

“I am particularly close to the dear people of Indonesia, especially to the communities of Christians of the city of Surabaya, which were hit hard by the serious attack on places of worship,” he said.

“Together we invoke the God of peace (asking him) to cease these violent actions and (to make sure) that in the heart of all there could be a space not feelings of hatred and violence, but of reconciliation and fraternity.”

Nearly 90 percent of Indonesians are Muslim, but the country is also home to sizeable communities of Hindus, Christians, Buddhists, and people who adhere to traditional beliefs.

The country, which will begin the holy fasting month of Ramadan this week, has been on high alert after a string of recent plots and attacks by militants inspired by IS.

The archipelago nation of some 17,000 islands has long struggled with Islamic militancy and has suffered a series of attacks in the past 15 years – including the 2002 Bali bombings that killed 202 people, mostly foreign tourists, in the country’s worst-ever terror attack.

A sustained crackdown weakened the most dangerous networks but the emergence of IS has proved a potent new rallying cry for radicals.

Hundreds of Indonesians have flocked to fight with IS, sparking fears that extremist outfits could get a new lease on life.

Queen Obioma Sues United Airlines For Racially Kicking Her Out Of Flight

download

A Nigerian woman is taking United Airlines to court, alleging that the carrier racially discriminated against her by removing her from her flight at Houston’s Bush Intercontinental Airport after a fellow passenger complained that she had a “pungent” odour.

On May 11, Queen Obioma filed a federal discrimination suit in Texas, stating that she and her children were wrongfully kicked off a flight headed to San Francisco on March 4, 2016, the second leg of a three-flight trip from Lagos, Nigeria, to Ontario, Canada, where her kids attend school, the Houston Chronicle reports.

According to the lawsuit, Obioma boarded the plane and found a white male passenger sitting in her assigned business class seat, from which he refused to move. When a flight attendant failed to resolve the conflict as the man continued to refuse to move to his own assigned seat, Obioma agreed to take his spot.

Obioma went to the restroom before takeoff and returned to find the man blocking her from accessing the seat for several minutes. The mother then alleged that a United staffer, identified as Russel H., instructed her to step off the plane, where she was informed by another United agent that the pilot requested that she exit as the man causing trouble complained that she was “pungent” and did not feel comfortable flying with her.

Shaken, Obioma had her children removed from the flight as well, and the family made their connection five hours later. A frequent flyer member of United’s Star Alliance programme, Obioma said the airline discriminated against her because she was black, African and Nigerian.

United returned Fox News’ request for comment with the following statement:

“We have not yet been served with this suit and due to the pending litigation involved in this matter, we’re unable to provide further comment,” spokesman for the airline said, in an emailed statement.

Sir Victor Uwaifo threatens to sue Simi over song theft

It has just been reported that veteran Nigerian musician Sir Victor Uwaifo has threatened to sue female singer, Simi, for stealing his hit song, Joromi. It could be recalled that the legendary singer released his own version in 1969 while Simi released hers in 2017.

uwaifo

It has just been reported that veteran Nigerian musician Sir Victor Uwaifo has threatened to sue female singer, Simi, for stealing his hit song, Joromi. It could be recalled that the legendary singer released his own version in 1969 while Simi released hers in 22017. According to Sahara Reporters, Uwaifo made this revelation at the annual meeting of copyright society of Nigeria COSON, where intellectual property theft was described as a very serious issue in Nigeria. That was not all, the music legend also disclosed that he is suing Pepsi of N500 million for making use of his song, Arabade for a TV commercial. He added that the case is still at the Federal High Court, Benin.Simi.jpeg

He said: “Copyright is a very serious business and the contravention of copyright laws is more serious than you can imagine. Most people still believe that someone can just pick somebody’s work, which we call intellectual property right, and use it for his own benefit of the detriment of the composer, the man who actually created the work. You know it takes time to create a work; it takes a lot of research to be able to come out with a piece of work. You know one single track is equivalent to research journal and then a whole record is equivalent to a book publication, so people don’t understand it they don’t know. You don’t just wake up in the university then you just put anything down and you call it a journal or a book. It takes a lot of research to be able to do one piece of music. The composition, the lyrics, the music, the score, the arrangement, the production and booking of the studio all cost money, and someone will just come and take the work and use it as his own or probably do an advert on it. I’m suing Pepsi for N500 million, the case is already at the Federal High Court in Benin.” When asked if he was going to take any legal action against the petite female singer, Simi, he said: “One after the other. I cannot just take everybody to court at the same time. I don’t know whether he or she; I know she is but I know somebody is behind it. An LP was sent as a compliment; I’m still looking at it but they were planning to come to Benin to see me; up till now, they haven’t come, so I’m just putting that one on hold. ‘Joromi’ is a franchise; the name never existed before. Benin don’t have ‘J’ in their language; if any started with ‘J’ in Benin then it is fake. All consonant words start with vowel sounds. For example, if I use the trademark of one of these soft drinks, it is wrong. So Simi is in trouble.”

Nigerian teenager stabbed 15-year-old to death after row that started in comments on social media

Nigerian teenager stabbed 15-year-old to death after row that started in comments on social media

A teenager has been jailed on his 18th birthday for killing a 15-year-old boy in an alleged row over comments left on social media.

Michael Idehen, 18, who rapped about stabbing people on YouTube, was captured on CCTV plunging a knife into Kyron Webb’s chest in Moston, Manchester on October 17 last year.

During his trial he claimed Kyron had left derogatory comments on a video he posted on Snapchat and even threatened to stab him.

Kyron

Michael, who turned 18 on Friday, May 11, 2018, was jailed on that same day. He was sentenced to a minimum of 15 years behind bars for the younger boy’s murder.

Michael had previously uploaded a video to YouTube that talked about “cheffing” a slang term for stabbing. The YouTube video called “No Gas” and posted by a group named “MB26” shows Micheal rapping about “trying to chef your friend”. The clip, which appeared online in August 2017, features a number of masked youths.

“He backed his shank [knife], he waived it around, but he didn’t do no cheffing,” the teenager raps.

Manchester Crown Court heard that Michael, who was 17 at the time of the attack and had previous convictions for knife possession and robbery, knew Kyron before it happened. Phone evidence suggested they had been in contact before.

A 17-year-old boy, who was 16 at the time of Kyron’s murder and who cannot be named for legal reasons, was also jailed for five years after pleading guilty to manslaughter.

The attack on Kyron was captured on CCTV. Prior to the fatal attack on October 17, Michael and his co-defendant who was sentenced to five years had taken a bus to Moston to meet up with another group for a “pre-arranged” meeting, prosecutor Nicholas Johnson QC said.

At around 6.45pm, student Kyron arrived in Moston Lane. Micheal walked over to speak to Kyron, who moved to Manchester from south London with his mother. The court heard Idehen’s co-defendant then arrived and moved towards Kyron in an “intimidating manner”.

Kyron and the then 16-year-old moved away for a short time, before Michael’s friend pulled a metal bar from his waistband. The three came back and stood together, and the 16-year-old then made two further “intimidating movements” towards Kyron.

Both defendants moved away, but around a minute later Michael returned to Kyron, who was leaning against a wall, and stabbed him through his heart.

The pair fled, leaving Kyron, who was collapsed on the floor, for dead. Kyron was rushed to hospital, where he died three days later. A knife was found in the bag he was carrying at the time of his death.

Both defendants were arrested the day Kyron died.

A victim impact statement by Kyron’s mother Rachel Webb, summarised by Mr Johnson, said: “She feels she has also died in many ways.”

Mr Johnson said members of Kyron’s family have had to undergo therapy.

A letter Micheal wrote to Kyron’s family was summarised in court. Mr Hayton said: “Whatever else happens to him [Micheal] he will never forgive himself for what he did.

Racer breaks down in police car when he realises he’s mowed down and killed jogger, 18… victim’s father says: ” Our lives have been shattered for a few minutes of reckless fun

Racer breaks down in police car when he realises he

William Dorey, an 18-year-old A-level student, went for a run but never made it home. He was mowed down by two joyriders; Joshua Cherukara, 20, and Harry Cable, 18.

Joshua and Harry were racing each other in Whitley Bay, Tyneside, at the same time William was out jogging. Unfortunately, William was struck by a Renault Megane driven by Joshua, who had been racing Harry’s Vauxhall Corsa along the coast.

Racer breaks down in police car when he realises he

Police arrived the scene and arrested the young men responsible for the accident that killed William. Video footage shows the moment Joshua breaks down in tears in the back of a police car moments after the car crash. He is handcuffed and can be seen mouthing “Oh my God”.

Both racers admitted to causing death by dangerous driving and were sent to a young offenders’ institution. Joshua was sent for six years and nine months, while Harry got four-and-a-half years. Both will be banned from driving for four years after their release.

William’s father, Hugh Dorey, 57, described the moment he came across the aftermath of a car crash, not realising his teenage son’s was involved.

He explained that their son had been preparing for his A-Level exams when he decided to go for a run. His parents began to worry when he didn’t return and their worry increased when they saw two police cars flashed past their house.

Mrs Gill Dorey asked her husband to go and check on their son and he drove just a few hundred yards from their home when he came upon the scene of the crash. He said he saw a number of police cars but still “half-expected” his son to appear.

Mr Dorey told the Chronicle Live: “At this point I didn’t know that in front of me was the scene of my son’s fatal accident.”

Racer breaks down in police car when he realises he

When he told his wife there had been an accident close to their home in Whitley Bay, North Tyneside, she joined him at the scene. At the site, police asked them if their son wore glasses and when they said yes, they were put in the back of a police car and the police showed them a pair of glasses and smashed mobile phone that belonged to their son and asked if they recognised them.

Mr Dorey revealed that he said something like “oh Jesus Christ” and his wife recognised the phone as belonging to their son.

He said: “She knew that was the end of her life as she knew it.”

They were then taken to identify their son’s body at the same hospital he was born in. They immediately realised it was their son and described the ‘awful’ injuries to his head and face.

Mr Dorey described how his wife threw herself at the door as they left and said that her “baby was dead”.

The grieving father asked the killer drivers how they would feel if they were told by police that their child was killed by internal decapitation.

The family described how their lives have been shattered for a few minutes of “immature, selfish fun”.

Our lives have been shattered. Our loss is immeasurable.

And why? For what? A few minutes of immature, selfish fun. Reckless stupidity at the hands of another. He lost his life in a wholly senseless, random manner.

He only went for a run, not an activity usually associated with the risk of death. Except this time he did not come home. He will never come home.

This is our opportunity to bring home to those responsible what they have done. They have inflicted a terrible wound on our family.

They need to understand the enormity of what they have done, the depth of pain, hurt and anguish they have caused.

For Will’s life to end as it did is such a tragic waste.

He had travelled half way around the world, each time returning safely home.

Yet, even though he was on the pavement he was knocked down and killed a few yards from home, just because he went out for exercise and fresh air. How are you to come to terms with that?

He added:

It seems to be a case of immature, arrogant drivers behaving like idiots.

In a statement at the court hearing of William’s boy racer killers, the family said their lives would never be the same again.

”President Buhari’s son had his brain surgery In Nigeria, not Germany” Minister of Health, Isaac Adewole says

Minister of Health, Isaac Adewole, has denied claims that president Buhari’s son, Yusuf, had a brain surgery in Gemarny. Recall that Yusuf was involved in a ghastly motorbike accident on December 26th last year, leaving him with head injury and a broken limb.

He was taken to an Abuja based hospital where a surgery was conducted on him and afterwards he was flown abroad. Many Nigerians believed his trip to Germany was to undergo a brain surgery. The minister of health however says that is not true.

”The President asked his son to be treated in Nigeria. Even when people were clamouring that his son should be flown abroad, he said no. He just went to Germany for rehabilitation. He had his surgery in Nigeria. I am telling you that the son was treated in Nigeria. Take that from me as the Honourable Minister,” he told Channels TV
